That's not even remotely true. Custom ROMs often run better on idle and on screen due to removal of bloatware and other garbage that carriers install. I have not once ran into a custom ROM based on the same Kernel and source (AOKP, Sense, etc) that didn't run better in both idle and screen on or while using applications.
CleanROM 5, Paranoid Android, Nocturnal, CM10, and any other ROM I've thrown at my One X outlasts the stock ROM by hours.







They're the sole reason I'm even going OneX. They even have full working camera and 720P video camera working on the inspire despite HTC never giving out drivers.
