Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2012 Edition

Didn't see a thread on this upcoming game. Any ideas as to how this game is gonna perform and what advancements they've made in the racing genre?

The footage looks pretty good from what I have seen.

I am looking forward to it... but I will wait to see if it's the revolution that NFS Underground was to the series. I loved the frachise and believe that the last great version that was made was still Porsche Unleashed, but I did love Underground.

The old most wanted was great too, but I did not like it as much. With saying that, I believe I will wait until it is cheaper. I don't think I can pay premium price for a racing game. $50 bucks is a lot...

It is interesting, however as it happens with most NFS titles, it seems as if none of the developers have ever driven any of the cars featured in the game, primarily the American cars, more specifically the Ford Raptor. I'm a huge truck nut, and it is like someone who actively despises those who don't drive cars was in charge of adding it to the game. I understand the game was made in Europe and the full sized truck market isn't huge there, but it's like someone asked a WWII era German to come up with a Jewish nursery rhyme... It's just wrong.

EDIT:

I love Criterion, and I loved the first Most Wanted. This one... not nearly as much. You're stuck with Criterion's typical 2 camera views, exterior (which I never play driving games in) and a bumper cam set just inches off the ground (Which works ok in Burnout, but here it's just awful).

The first MW had a story to it, you were a person fighting up the ranks to get your car back and to take out the douchebag Razor. In this, you don't get the feeling that you're a driver, you get the feeling that you're the car. There's NOTHING in the way of any story, there's no garage of cars you own/win to choose from, you drive around town, pull up to another marked car, and just 'jump in'. Races are tied to specific cars, you can't just roll up to a race in whatever car you want to use and the game adjusts the AI accordingly. The cops are a laughable annoyance rather than a challenge. The driving physics are just god-awful. I usually know what to expect from an NFS game (Shift series aside) and yet still found the handling to be terrible. Every car I've driven so far has felt the same, they didn't even give them Burnout Paradise handling, which would have been better since even there the cars FELT different while driving.

Bottom line, if you liked Burnout Paradise and/or the first Most Wanted, skip this, it's NOT the glorious mashup we thought it was going to be, and I feel sorry for anyone else who buys it expecting it to be.

Side Note: Yet another reason devs need to MAKE DEMOS!. They don't because once they've got our money, there's nothing we can do and we can't try-before-we-buy without demos.

The first Most Wanted was one of my favorite racing games of the time. I also really enjoyed Underground, but still not as much as MW. The way it felt to drive with a wheel and get away from the cops I thought was great! I was hoping this would be good as well, but it seems to be pretty mixed so far. I guess I'll be waiting to check it out. I just picked up Paradise recently (had played it a lot on PS3), so that'll probably hold me over for that fix for a bit.

I agree with the handling of the cars, horrendous! The two camera angles and locked FPS at 60 sucks as well. Visually it looks good. As previously said, there isn't a story line. No mod shop, no any car for any race. On the plus side I was able to configure my logitech controller with this without having to use another program to do so. For 50 bucks, this wasn't worth it to me. mad.gif Alas I'll play it here or there for 15-20 minutes.

IMO, Forza Horizon is the spiritual successor to NFSMW, just without the cops. It plays like a combination of NFSU, Forza, and TDU. much better game for the money. Now if only MS would release Forza on the PC... (wishful and delusional thinking)

I have been looking forward to this games for a couple months. I loved the first MW but after reading this I think I will rent it for PS3 before buying it on pc. Maybe it will go on sale over Christmas. Too bad they wont put EA games on steam anymore or it would probably be in there Christmas sale.
