should i upgrade - Page 3

1st off, you should give a budget. Otherwise, you'll get everyone telling you to get a better CPU, better monitor, faster RAM, good cooler, etc.

2nd off, you should give a reason why you want to upgrade. Obviously, the best upgrade to do all depends on what you use your PC for.

3rd off, your CPU is not a "true" phenom. It's a higher clocked propus chip (athlon), and lacks L3 cache and will probably be severely limited in overclockability.

If you provide specifics, we can help you.

Whatever you do don't do that, there's really no point buying a Sandy Bridge chip over an Ivy Bridge chip.

asus am3+
4gb ddr3 1333 ram
320gb hdd
and a hd 7850 2gb

that phenom ii is a decent cpu, but it does lack L3. i would just hold off on upgrading and OC if you can. i have a similar cpu (anothon ii x3 455 unlocked to b55 no L3) OC to 3.5Ghz. my applications and games run very good still. i play crysis warhead maxed, metro 2033 on high, fallout 3 and nv on ultra ... i would wait till amd has something to rival intel before i upgrade or just save and get i5. not an intel fanboy but intel is better than amd atm.

Yeah man, just buy a 24'' 1080p monitor and an ssd and you will have a pretty noticable upgrade.
You should get a 120gb or more.
Don't upgrade your ram.

if i were buying an i5 i would get a 2400 for gaming (if not OCing) or 2500k (if OCing). nothing wrong with ivy bridge, but sandy is still good especially if gaming is main use. reading the rest of the post i would agree and upgrade your monitor and other components. maybe even an ssd. i think you resolution is holding you back. i game on a VERY similar cpu at a close speed to yours. no i can't max out all games ... but every game i play is very playable. gta 4 runs good on my rig, the other games you mentioned i don't have so i can't comment. LA Noire plays good, SW:TOR plays good, WoW is maxed (when i play it). i really would wait another gen or so before replacing your cpu and mobo if all you do is gaming (that's mainly what i do). try faster memory first, better monitor, new graphics card, an ssd ... all these things will boost what you have.
