Fall 2012's best X79 Socket 2012 Motherboard??

Thread Starter
What is fall 2012's best X79 Socket 2012 Motherboard??

Already bought a 3930K, set on the platform (due to Fluxless Solder love and upcoming Ivy Bridge Extreme chips), but the mobo I was going to get, the Rampage IV Extreme, has VRMs on the rear of the motherboard, which flys in the face of my watercooling, so I want the best board that does not have that "Feature" rolleyes.gif

So what? Now I am at a loss, cus I always bought ROG Extreme boards. There is the Rampage IV formula, or how bout the ASROCK X79 Extreme 11?? Do they have backside VRMs?

Please Help me Obiwan Forum Go-ers, you're my only hope!!

This just depends on the kind of feature set you want from the board. The Extreme 11 is more of a workstation board while the RIVE is more geared towards overclocking. There's no single "best at everything" board.

Also the Extreme11 has stuff on the backside of the board just like the rampage boards. I can bench at 5.5ghz with my mobo watercooled (using a RIVE) so I don't really see why this would be an issue.

Prehaps I am over reacting, I'm just exploring my options. Not sure how big a problem that really is. Stern notes that it's a pain in the ass for the RIVE.

Edit:

Can't find a board I like yet for the 2011 socket, perhaps I will mod in a backside VRM block for my loop.

It's not really necessary tbh tongue.gif You should just try it with a normal block first. There's not going to be any problems as long as the board is working

I have VRM heatsinks on the rear VRMs, lol. You'll hit your CPUs OC limits before the board limits you really, assuming you have decent cooling otherwise.

if you are using voltages above 1.52V Vcore, you will need backside active cooling.
which can be as simple as strapping a small fan to the back side, and adding some copper heat spreaders.

but yes, without, at 1.52V + your VRMs - WILL - throttle under prime95 and many stress tests.
