No eSATA port though, but you could buy one of those cheap internal to eSATA brackets to use (that's what I do). The P8Z77-V PRO has WiFi and eSATA (via an included bracket).

The STX will be great with those headphones, I have the 600 ohm DT880s and a STX and they sound great.

Wow! I never knew you could do that! Otherwise I was originally looking at the P8Z77 Series only! So the e-sata bracket would just consume one of the unused expansion slots?

I was in 2 minds between the Gigabyte and Maximus for sure hence I posted the MB question originally. the Gigabyte board does seem to have all the features I need. But I keep reading posts abt its UEFI and software as well as support being crappy? How much truth is there in that? Also I was wondering what advantages the Maximus has over the Gigabyte board except the Superior sound solution (if any)

regarding the soundcard! cool! Having never owned a discrete Sound card before, I was not 100% sure abt the STX. However, the headphones sound crappier than my older skullcandy 32Ohm Headphones with my current Laptop MB Sound driver (Realtek I believe). Also, how good is the STX for driving the speakers? Is there any card that does both headphones and 2.1 speakers well?

Yes, the bracket just takes an expansion slot on the case - normally you can find one that isn't usable anyway so it doesn't really affect anything. It also takes up one or two of the internal SATA ports, so if you have a lot of drives to connect that could be an issue.

I don't know about the new Gigabyte UEFIs - I had a Gigabyte P67 board, but it had the old style BIOS. I've had (and still have) a couple of Gigabyte boards and they've all been fine, but I never had to deal with their support.

I've never tried my STX with speakers, but I imagine it will sound fine. I don't think it'll do speakers and headphones at the same time though - you have to switch back and forth. With 600 ohm headphones, your only options are the STX, an external DAC/AMP, or a normal sound card (like the Xonar DX) and an amp. If the headphone and speakers at the same time is a big issue, you can ask around about what's the better option.

The 620 does have a smaller radiator, then again people were also using them to cool gtx 480s which get upwards off 100c, so I would think they can sufficiently cool an oc'ed cpu
