Help configuring RAID etc

So I've always wanted to try RAID out and there was a really cheap RAID card in a sale locally on the weekend. I decided to grab it at $40 AUD, it's an Adaptec 1220SA. Now I was thinking because I've got two hard drives which are different brands and sizes (and speeds..) would it be possible to make say a 100GB parition in RAID 1? Otherwise I can swap the 640GB for a 500GB 7,200RPM drive but that is a lot of hassle. (Like a lot)

Also seeing as D: a 1TB Samsung F3 has program files on it.. Would it make every program corrupt or would Windows still detect that as "D:" and read from it? (This isn't on the partition either btw)

I'm also considering putting BF3 on the partition, but I was thinking more photos and stuff and music incase one drive dies as both are getting older now.

Yes you can. The array will just be limited by the slowest drive and smallest size.

It shouldn't change it you don't mess with it.

I do.. I copy it once a week to both drives.. I just think the 100GB (maybe smaller) partitions would be a good idea.. But is that possible to only RAID 2 partitions and not the entire drives?

Also it should be fine if say I moved the SATA plug from the motherboard to the RAID card?
