Pretty interesting, although not to surprising, although I know that Motorola didn't really do well I thought they might have turned a profit as I believe behind Samsung they are the best Android vendor.

I would not be surprised if Motorola was not reporting all of their income. AFAIK they're still getting contracts for manufacturing military communications hardware, and Uncle Sam may not want the world to know how much they pay for that stuff.

again, its still unbelievable as 106% after RIM Nokia & others make loss, the profit gets reduced, from the figure (say 100% - x)

it isn't 100% + (x)(loss)

still far from proper justification.

100% is everything. How can they have more than everything ?

For the sake of argument, lets just say that this quarter's profits were like this :

Samsung : 12$
Apple : 17$
RIM, Nokia, Motorola : -2$ (a loss)

Entire market profit : 12+17-2 = 27

Samsung and Apple profit : 12+17 = 29

Therefor Samsung and Apple made 29$ of the 27$ in profit of the entire market, which is more than 100% biggrin.gif

it's still doesn't make any sense, if there is only samsung and apple for example, and apple goes bankrupt, samsung gets 200% of the market share? does that make any sense?

Yes, but that's market share. This is about profit.

A company can have more profit than the entire market because other companies can post a loss.

You can't however, post a negative market share smile.gif Therefor you can never own more than 100% of the market share.

For instance,

A hundred people use an OS.

Windows : 91% (91 people)
Apple : 6% (6 people)
Linux : 2% (2 people)
Others : 1% (1 person)

That's 100% in total.

Let's assume everyone leaves Apple, Linux and others and start using Windows. It also gains 10 new users.

That would make :

Windows : 110 people
Apple : 0 people
Linux : 0 people
Others : 0 people

That's a total of 110 people out of 110, not 100. Therefor it is still 100% in total. Only when you compare Windows in the previous assumption to Windows in the second assumption, one can see an increase that exceeds 100% but that's no longer market share, that's just a comparison of numbers, put in to percentages.

the loss is because they are not selling, lack of sale doesn't mean that their money magically gets transferred to the other one, the money lost from production, r&d, etc. doesn't get transferred to someone and become profit.

so my point still stands, you can't exceed 100% market profit just because someone is losing money.

example, out of 100 percent, 20 percent are sony fanboys, but they changet their mind and bought apple's instead, sony went bankrupt, that doesn't mean that apple took sony's money, and that doesn't mean that the available profit from the consumers increased, they just shifted from sony to apple,

YOU CANNOT TAKE MORE THAN 100% FROM THE CONSUMERS
