dude, if samsung and apple made no profit, the numerator in the equation would be zero, hence, no profit

Since loss is incurred by nokia and rim and the likes, we cannot and will not apportion the loss to Apple & Samsung
Therefore, they still have $50 profit.
so, looking at the entire industry samsung and apple made 50 (samsung & Apple)/48 (Industry profit) = 104%

So, you called others that have losses as INDUSTRY PROFIT and samsung and apple as themselvers, what are their difference besides losses? If nokia and others can be classified as industry frofit, why can't be samsung and apple? I don't get your calculations. They are all industry.

No that would mean that :

Samsung + Apple : 0$
RIM / Nokia / Motorola : -2$

That would mean that the entire market made no profit but lost 2$.

0$ out of -2$ is nothing. They'd just have 0% profit (not a loss or a gain).

I know, thats why this over 100 percent calculations doesn't make any sense. If samsung doesn't have any profit, then their profit % is 0 regardless of other's losses, other's losses doesn't add to samsung's profit %

Profit can be positive or negative.

He added the negative profit made by RIM / Nokia to the positive profit by Apple/Samsung, which is the entire profit of the market.

Now, if you want to compare the profit made by Apple and Samsung to the profit that the market made, you'd have to take their profit and put it against the market's profit. That's why he took Apple/Samsung's 50$ and put it against the market's 48$. You see ? smile.gif

logically, if samsung made no profit or for that matter any corp in the market made no profit in a field, why would someone even think of make such a comparison

my 100 pancakes that didn't got sold costed me 50 dollars, so i lost 50 dollars because i didn't sold those, you can't add my 50 dollar loss to your profit unless i give those unsold pancakes to you and sell them.

This 106% figure is the proportion of Apple + Samsung's profit compared to the overall profit in the industry as a whole. Unless I am mistaken the 106% figure makes sense because Apple and Samsung combined made 106% of the Total profit in the industry, if you didn't add the losses than you would only have money made and not profit as profit can also hold a negative value. The confusing point here is that if the industry as a whole posted a negative profit than you wouldn't be able to represent an area of profit as a proportion of this however while the profit is positive this makes sense as profit is money lost as well as money made!

Guys, it all fits perfectly in the Apple way of presenting things. Lmao no troll intended, I just found it a funny comment to randomly chime in with.
