difficult question. we don't know how much demanding games in the future are going to be. but atleast for a couple of years HD 7870 should allow to play the latest games at high settings. In few games in the future you might need to turn AA off.

7870 had an overall 10% increase in performance (small gains on some games the gains on the newer games was 20-30%) so yeah I'd say it has surpassed the gtx 580 by a LOT

hey skitz do i know u ? lol coz i saw u back on toms asking the same question over and over again. dont worry man neither a 7850 nor 7870 will bottleneck your phenom x4 820.
but you would be better off upgrading your cpu next year to either haswell or steamroller

Not all hd7870 clock like crazy. The non ghz models seem to. I have 2 x gigabyte @ 1100mhz and neither will clock over the gigabyte oc. Great cards though, even 1 is highly recommended for the price today

Thread Starter
i got told this You could wait haswell should be good, but if your only gaming it would be a waste of money. Any current Gen AMD cpu can get ya there.and i got a message say i should get a i5 2500k cpu then overclock it
