As you mentioned, zephiK, I think pricing has everything to do with this. The "step up" $14.99 pricing is quite impressive for MS to bring it that low, and the $39.99 normal price is equally a good deal for any Win7, Vista, or XP computers. So, yes, pricing has a lot to do with it.

Still, though, good work on Microsoft's part. No matter what their strategy for getting Win8 out there, it's working. And reviews are quite good this time around too. thumb.gif

The problem that people are going to find is that Windows 8 is designed for touch screen interfaces. I was actually playing around with it on a touch screen ultrabook in Best Buy today, and it looked and felt great in that application. The problem is when I tried to use the mouse, it suddenly felt completely out of place. With the touch screen, though, it was fantastic.

All-in-all, Windows 8 is designed for touch interfaces, once those saturate the market, I believe Windows 8 will be a success.

I Was very willing to pay the $40 for the upgrade from Windows 7. So far, I am enjoying Windows 8. Sure, there are some pet peeves but nothing that makes it not worth it for me.

I think that's the big one. Those aren't private sales. Many of those sales are copies that went to OEM's such as dell and HP.

I know I didn't upgrade.

I kind of think of Windows 8 is not a tablet OS. By first impressions, it is. But once you opt out of the Metro scheme of things and use ClassicShell/Pokki/Start8, it feels like Windows 7 again. I kind of like it without Aero.

A lot of security companies praise Windows 8 for it's enhanced securities. It definitely has OS performance optimizations that I feel on a day-to-day basis and simply in love with it.
I for one, didn't like Windows 8 at first, but once I installed Start8 (other alternatives available as well) I start to like the OS on my desktop.

On laptops, I don't mind touch screens. Touch screen and keyboard (kinda like Surface) is a cool concept and has been around since ASUS' transformer. But for a touch monitor and keyboard, thats a huge no no in my book.
