Personally the problem with Metro and its apps for me is that it takes the full screen. Which is something I don't like.
I like Windows 8, just not metro so I run Windows 8 strictly outside of metro.

If you mean "Desktop" unfortunately its just another APP inside of MetroUI, you never quite get out of the MetroUI.

Orrr, you can continue to use the previously existing software that does actually cater to your needs and people who like what you don't like can have what they want too.

Society is moving towards mobile device integration with home device, but the awesome thing about it?

You don't need to like it.

XP still exists.

Vista still exists.

7 still exists.

You can have all the "traditional" Windows you want. If XP and the similarities between W7/W8 is anything to go by, you can have at least another 7 or so years of doing things the way you did them 17 years ago, and you can hope you're still relevant by then!

How cool is that?

Great news! I upgraded for $40 on launch day and am very pleased. As others mentioned, there are a couple weird things about it but the speed it infused into my Vista laptop is awesome. I would assume they offered the upgrades so cheap because now they have an app store that is right in front of you on the metro UI so they are obviously planning to make money there (taking a page out of Amazon's book, eh?). I'm excited to pick up my a Windows phone next month and start playing around with that integration aspect smile.gif

Doesn't matter. It doesn't use that many resources. I can barely tell it's there. Don't rain over my parade.

Take a look at my rig, there are parts in here that do not even have Vista drivers. That is often an example of why people have new OSes.

Secondly, I am more concerned about the not given much of a choice. It is also logical to assume that in the future, i.e. Windows 9 might force me to retain these new changes. After all, we have been using the same UI concepts for what 18 years? The only way things can go back to a nice standard I have preferred since I can remember is if this flops like fish on land, like I hope. I may not get Windows 8, maybe stick with 7 through 9 even, but I can't hold out forever, no one can. That's one of MS's monopolies.

Besides my gripes go deep in to the OS itself and its extreme Gatekeeper like activities that even Apple wouldn't try.

I bought a copy on the way home Friday night. Ran a clean install on my litle Dell 11z and Im starting to like it. Its not that bad, better when using a real mouse though. Im not sure if I will install it on my main rig since it doesn't have the Gadgets...

MS being really smart here. They don't really care how much they make on win 8. they just want people to adopt once they have hooked people on they can introduce the much improved win 9 for much higher. also at 40 odd dollars this becomes much more affordable for people in the developing world, which is about 80% of the world population.

Till when is the promotional upgrade price available? I've been mulling it over but I have 3 PCs and Windows 8 can only be verified on one machine at a time. And how come they don't offer a cheap upgrade to Home/basic
