12.10 Weird "Hiccups"

So I installed (dual booted) 12.10 and win7 last night (both on my ssd; 20gb for the 12.10 install and 3.5gb for the swap partition, windows has the rest) , and I'd getting these weird performance hangups that have been persistent throughout the install process. I had to use the keyboard to select the formatting options when partitioning the free space on the drive after restarting the machine 6 times because it didn't respond to the mouse input, got lucky and figured out that it responded to the keyboard.

I'm also missing my "additional drivers" icon to install the drivers for my gpu. Should I even bother with installing the drivers through terminal or just wipe the partitions and go back to 12.04?

Botched installation media (even after installed and updated?) or just incompatible with my particular set-up and 12.10, I know it's new but I didn't expect it to act like this since 12.04 ran smoothly last I remember...?

CPU Usage was at a constant 20-40% too.

I haven't had these problems on any previous installs, even when putting it on my chromebook

the performance hangups are just the UI elements of some windows stop responding, or the system will stop to "think" while I could interact with the unity bar, performance didn't change in MATE either.

(64bit, hardware in sig)

I have no idea. I had problems clicking on things due to a weird bug with my rat 7 that I had to fix before I could use the OS properly, and by the time I figured that out I had already installd 12.04 and called it a day.

I couldn't find it in the menus of either unity or MATE, but it showed back up when I wiped it and put 12.04 on. Had to do a manual install to get AMD's 12.10 driver, but i figured it out and learned some new things while copy-pasta terminal commands.

TOok about 3 hours, but got 12.04 working correctly, with proprietary drivers, and a working mouse.

The only thing I have left to do (and I searched and tried many things last night for another 2-3 hours) was how to get my audio to output via AMD HDMI out, I don't have the sound hardware in the sound menu, or alsamixer, but when I did the overarching "what's there" command ubuntu saw it, but alsa didn't. Couldn't figure out how to update alsa or if i needed something called "pulsemixer"...?

le sigh. %90 percent functional!

I think the general consensus was that it was a bug in CCC, but I dunno. I tried many things save reverting driver version because I just wanted to play minecraft (which worked better!)

the rat 7 issue was resolved with adding a config with the button mappings.

that was the most irratating thing (and rendered the OS unusable), glad it was fixable!

meh... "linux is easy" they say...

still not ready for mainstream .

Just very happy most things are well documented in askubuntu and ubuntuforums

I think I'll wait awhile before messing with Arch

in linux, i've come to 4 or so, and add java in there for another 4 .

i just used swap because it was recommended.
