Is this crazy IPS Glow?

Thread Starter
I just got this LG IPS277L monitor for like 200 euroes, and guess what:

imag0017ft.jpg
imag0019kk.jpg
(Do you see the pathway to the very left? Oh sorry you dont...)

Cant play games that are a bit dark, neither can I properly watch movies without that cloud of glow!

Is this normal?
Is this too much?

IPS glow is just a general lack of super dark blacks. Since at different angles it's the same it's something with the panel.

Coming from someone who has an Auria 27"

But the thing is if I put my head so that Im facing the left side of the monitor looking straight on the left side that is, the "glow" on that spot is gone.

No, IPS glow refers to the glow you get on the parts of the monitor you don't view straight on, and thus appears mostly in the corners of the monitor during normal usage. It's color depends on a few things, but it's generally white-ish. It is rather noticeable on darker scenes if you have a larger monitor with noticeable glow. Lack of deep blacks is not called IPS glow, that can be expressed in a number of other manners.

I have an IPS234W from Costco, I think in the same 'line' of IPS monitors we have similar models, albeit mine is smaller. But -

Mine does that, just not nearly as bad.

Well this monitor has some nice blacks, its just that the glow is soo frustrating.
But i sent an email to the retailer and well see if ill return it or get another one or swap it with another monitor/brand entirely.

Lower the brightness to around 30%, then look at the display. Most displays have very obvious bleeding @high brightness level and no TN or IPS/PLS will give you good black levels when the brightness is kept cranked.

Asus PB278Q left with the default brightness @90/100=280cdm/2 vs CrossOver 2720MDP @ 28/100 setting= 120cdm/2 luminance
