I am not over clocking this time. I got a good deal on my xeon so I went with it but I do miss it a bit. The fun of overclocking not necessarily the performance.

*awards himself some points*

You don't even have to buy a water cooler to get good overclocking. I have 2 i5-2500K systems OC'd to 4.4GHz just on a 212 Hyper heat sink and the video card is OC'd from 775MHz to 900MHz ... again, just with air.

pretty much that tongue.gif

Trying to sort out faulty hard ware while in the middle of OC'ing on a fresh rig can be a total nightmare. Best to separate the two IMO.
Second, this will allow you to establish a "real world baseline", giving you something to compare and contrast on.

great advice thumb.gif

i don't oc a system for atleast 2 weeks from being built so i can stress test it on stock settings and see what area's are going to be problematic (CPU problems,Video card problems, Motherboard problems, Memory problems) as i get down to OCing the system. biggrin.gif once all stock testing pass in the 1 week i move on to replacing what parts needs to be replaced that showed signs of problems and get the new parts back in and test for another week and if they pass then i'll move onto the OC staging grounds and OC the system. smile.gif when i do that it makes me very confident that my system will not burn out sooner than later. biggrin.gif
