Bent Pins on 955 Black Edition, BSOD's galore, hoping the chip isn't dead - Page 2

Try testing the SSD with HDtune as well. If the cable seems ok, try also switching the SATA port. NTFS and damaged files BSODs sounds more like hdd/ssd issue than cpu. What temps do you get in something like Everest?

I'll give my friend a ring and tell him to utilise everest. However, when I checked the temperatures using speedfan on idle:

CPU: 32c average across all cores
GPU: 26c
HDD: 25c

I'll post the results when he's available. In the last 24 hours, he's not had a single BSOD. I was just assuming his copy of Windows was bust. Ran a repair utility for the error code 0x00000001a, and it hasn't appeared again. The SATA when I was building it, I tested all the SATA ports, and they were all working fine we rebooted several times just changing the HDD's sata's around!

Thanks again for the advice.

I had a look around for this issue, and some people seem to think it's to do with the fact there is no direct cooling from a downward's facing CPU fan. His case has two massive 200+mm fans on the side aiming directly at the motherboard. So it can't be an airflow issue, unless the North Bridge just gets that hot?

Yes, the northbridge of Gigabyte 990FX for the lower end UD3, D3 have a known heat problem if I remember correctly.

I'm not sure about ur pins problems, I remember my phenom 550 had billions of bent pins and I didn't even straighten them properly, just almost straight and the cpu still functioned perfectly.
