Upgrade

So I just took a look at benches http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/102?vs=697 and it seems to me that FX 8350 is incrementally better than the 965 in benches. My question is... can I upgrade to an FX 8350 on my board? And if I can't will I be better off upgrading to Sandy? Cash wise.

The 8350 is a noticeable increase in performance from the 965, and is actually generally percieved as faster than something like the i5 2500k (which I'm assuming you are referring to when you say upgrading to sandy). What kind of increase in performance are you wanting?

As far as your board goes, prelimiary googling suggests that it probably will. It supports Bulldozer processors, which suggests perhaps that they might keep up support for the new piledriver processors. However, their official support page does not mention it right now.

^^^ Yeah I did the Google search but like you said they didn't say if they support the *300 series yet. As for the kind of upgrade I want... a jump from Phenom II to Sandy Bridge level performance is what I'm looking for.

i switched from the 1090t-crosshair v to a z77-3570k,,cost 572$ canadan,,,,,and i,m very happy with the change,,it was well worth it to me,,your current board is AM3+,so it should support the 8350,,my crosshair v and m5a97 both support piledriver,,i just checked,,,,so gigabyte support is probably taking there time,,,maybe contact them

what ? lol ?

hansompa, what are you planning to use your puter for ? that makes a huge difference to what cpu would be a better fit for you.

*EDIT*
i count a 4+1 power phase. i wouldnt run anything more than a quad on it without worrying. sure ya might not have problems with a 6 but, wouldnt ya still be wondering how safe it is ? the 8 cores pull lots n lots of volts. hell if i would trust pulling about 200 watts...

Total war games are cpu dependant. So I shouldnt run an octo core?

not on that board i wouldnt. it is either 125 or 145 watt support. an overclocked 8core pulls almost 200 watt. no i wouldnt trust it to run anything more than a 6 core at most. i would still be scared to oc the snot out of it and that is a must do for both bulldozer and piledriver.
