esseun's Lian Li PC-Q07 Tiny Box Build Log

Hi all, just thought I start a build log to show/keep track of my progress on this build.

Build Summary
I wanted something that can sit on my small desk and not take up much room. Most cases that are of similar volume are longer than they are tall, which takes up more space on my desk. I wanted something like a FT03 mini, but I like the look of Lian Li better. I also own a Q11 so I know the quality I will be getting.

Parts List:
Gigabyte Z77 mitx (because of it's 24-pin placement)
i5 2500k (on sale!)
Modified Lian Li PC-Q07 (thanks to Jeremy from performance-pcs.com)
Gigabyte Z77 mitx (because of it's 24-pin placement)
Plextor m5s 256gb SSD
Samsung magic ram 2x4gb
Zotac GTX570 (Super short!: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500275&Tpk=gtx%20570%20zotac)
Silverstone modular st 550W
2x Antec Kuhler 620 + dwood bracket (CPU & GPU: hopefully they fit)
Asetek 760GC Combo CPU+GPU AIO Cooler
2x Gentle Typhoon AP-14
2 Steel mesh intake dust filters
1 Steel mesh fan guard

Nice start thumb.gif

I would definitely have the H60 as intake on the front, much better temps when it's getting fresh air. It's a shame you're not in Europe because Gainward do a GTX660 with a short housing, 180mm would fit exactly. But since you've got 2 places for a rad, you could consider watercooling GPU as well. Either using a special bracket to mount a Kuhler 620 to your GPU (then you can fit a GTX670). Or you could try with Swiftech Apogee Drive II (pump+CPU block), and Swiftech QP120 rads, one with built-in res. It would all be a horribly tricky fit though smile.gif

I thought about putting the rad in the front... and I wish I could. I am not for certain, but the 120mm hole was cut as closely to the power switch as possible. But even the, I may have clearance issues wit the radiator hitting the memory slots frown.gif
The only way I can think of mounting in the front (if there was a clearance issue) is to mount the fan outside of the case, which is not aesthetically pleasing.

Water cooling the GPU would be nice too... but I am not sure If i have room on the bottom intake. The top intake is the place I know for sure will not have any clearance issues.

I envy the europeans with the choice of palit, gainward and club3d short length graphics cards to choose from frown.gif I guess I can shell out extra bucks to have it shipped here from amazon.co.uk.

Looks like a really fun little build!
I'll be following this. Those 650 Ti's are so cute. Pretty attractive price-wise, as far as performance goes too.

I would go with the 3570k.
- Better IPC
- Better "Chipset" features
IMO, worth the small increase in heat.

Could you please specify which cards you're referring to?
I was fairly up to date with all of the short cards from these companies and ones like them during the 5/6xxx series, but I'm fairly out-of-the-loop now, and I'm a bit impartial to doing all of thhat research right now.

Great, I will go w/ the 3570k.

These are some of the cards i'm referring to that are just above 200mm.

Also, powercolor has a 7770 that's under 7 inches!!

Zotac has some 7.53" long GTX 660 and 660 Ti (including overclocked AMP model). They use dual fans, so they don't have to rely on external exhaust. They can be made even shorter because part of that length is just a plastic shroud.

If you can figure out how to get an AIO liquid cooler rad to mount in front, then you can do that for the graphics card, and do your CPU rad on top.

Use one of those Silverstone 450W SFX PSUs to gain some additional room inside the case.

The thing about any gtx 670 or 660, 660ti is that they have DVI ports on the second expansion bracket. I would have to cut the case to accommodate those.

Whereas a 560ti or 650ti both have all ports on one bracket, so I can swap the dual bracket for a single.

Has anyone had any experience with the new Gigabyte Z77 mitx board? I like the placement of the 24-pin. It would help w/ mounting my rad in the front.
