Thanks!

I think it looks nice, but why a 580? i'd say get a 670 instead as 1.5gb of vram isn't that great. Maybe even consider a 4gb 670

I considered it however the 580 is on sale for only £200 which is a steal, the 670 is a good £80ish more and he's on somewhat of a budget. I can always sell him my 580 on the cheap when I do my new build sometime next year. smile.gif

Why'd you go with the 3930K instead of a 3770K? What's he going to use this system for? Not sure of the exchange rate, but I'm guessing that's adding quite a bit to the bottom line for little to no performance impact, depending on intended use.

Also, does that cooler support socket 2011?

And if you do get a 3930K, wouldn't you want to get 4x4GB instead of 2x8GB since that platform is quad-channel?

yea if hes mainly gaming i would go with a 3570k and he does more cpu intensive things like rendering get a 3770k and get a 7970 or 7950 or two!!! you get a 7950 for about the same price as that 580 with 4 free games and its faster.
o and get an ssd like an m4 or samsung 830 , an ssd will probably make more of an impact than that 3930k over a 3570k unless he does tons of cpu extensive things.

^^ This ^^

If the use is primarily gaming then you are much better off with the 3570K. Games don't use Hyper Threading. With the money you save by getting the 3570K and a Z77 board like the ASUS p8Z77-V instead of an X79 you could probably get 2x 670s or 2x 7950s. You could probably squeeze in a Samsung 830 ssd as well since they're on sale due to the 840 coming out. I just hate to see you buy a refurb'd video card. I've never had any luck with refurbs.

Now I'm not sure if you they are available in your area but the Rosewill Capstone 750W is enough power for sli / xfire, is more efficient than the one you have listed and is a very high quality unit.

Hope these ideas are helping you. smile.gif

Thanks for the replies

Forgot to mention this isn't a final build he'll be adding SSD and things like that later on and plans to keep the computer for around 5-6 years or so, the computer's going to be used for a lot of Solidworks and other engineering software as well as gaming, I was looking at the 7950 but even that's at least £65 more and sadly I can't seem to find the Rosewill PSU in the UK.
