Fastest GPU for i3-2120?

Just a question out of curiosity. I know it will vary with some games being more CPU intensive but on average what is the fastest Graphics card a i3 could support without a bottleneck?

CPU bottle necking has 100% to do with what software your running, and 0% to do with what GPU you have.

That being said, a "good fit" for that CPU would be a GeForce GTX 660 or a HD 7870. Anything higher end than that would feel out-of-place with that processor.

In my humble opinion....

I would say a 550 ti would be perfect for it. It also depends on the size of your monitor though.

I see. You hold this CPU in high esteem! I've been fine with it so far I think on a 7850. But, I've been looking at task managers CPU usage but with Hyper Threading it doesn't not show the correct usage. It bottlenecks so hard on GW2, GPU usage goes down to 20% and regularly only around 70%. Although for my other games I haven't really paid any attention since I turned HT off.

What speed is your I3 running at? Your situation is one where overclocking becomes very practical. That's Sandy Bridge, so you should at least be getting 4.5 GHz out of it.

depends on the game.
if it is planetside 2 then it is the 2120's iGPU.
If it is a "generic" console port game then probably a 7950 or a gtx 670.

Why did you turn HT off?

Only K series from intel overclocks. That core 13 does not. Maybe by raising the fsb he will be able to get a max of 200mhz.

Oh and i would suggest a max of the gtx 560 otherwise the 6850 should run fine with it.

if you run one screen at 1080p, you can easily run a gtx690 that it will play anything maxed out with 60fps min. Who care if you bottleneck, as long as it stays over 60fps... your screen cannot render more than that anyway... Unless you have a 120Mhz of course.

Saying *only K* chips can OC is soo false.
Maybe for SB but the 1st i3(540-550-560) just to name a few were beast that could get close to 5Ghz. I7 3820 is another good overclocking chip. all 1366 and 1156 socket but 2 chips are not K and they were all OCable...

Yes but I'm not talking about the older intel chips. Since the 2120 only K series chips overclock. People rarely have the core i3 540 or even the core i5 750 which i personally like.
