The iPad Mini is in a different product catagory than the iPod Touch. Personally, I wouldn't of minded the iPad Mini if it had retina display so I can read books. The iPod Touch, just like the iPhone, is not the best for reading 600+ page books, and don't get me started on PDFs.

I just wished it had a retina screen. *sigh*

OT: GT series is one of my all time favs on the PS line. <3

So you're saying you can read books on the iPad mini due to the screen resolution? Way to go..

The iPad Mini has up to 64GB storage capacity. But yes, the N7 has twice the cores and twice the RAM. The Mini has the more powerful GPU.

An A5 isn't going to drive a retina display which means they would of had to use the A5X or A6X. Then the battery life would of been horrible which means the design would have to completely change making it noticeably thicker and heavier so that it could hold a larger battery. Changing the resolution now would also break compatibility with all of the current iPad apps which is one of the strongest selling points for the iPad and Apple obviously felt with this being a first gen device that day 1 app compatibility currently outweighed the benefit of a retina display for the average Apple consumer.
This. It would be great, but a Retina display requires too much power.

It can fit just fine -- it's just then it competes in performance with the larger iPad and destroys the iPod touch 5.

The fact that Google can sell a 3g Nexus 7 for $350 makes it look even worse than it already is...
The whole point to this tablet is really the weight, thickness, and battery life. And in those things it does very well.

They didn't include the A6 as it would compete with the 9.7 inch iPad and destroy the iPod touch 5 in terms of performance. They didn't use a Retina display because of the huge power requirements which would totally ruin the Mini.

I'm not going to argue that the iPad mini isn't a decent device, but at its current price point, it really cannot compete with other tablets of similar size. It is competing against other iPads. That's it.

I know apple doesn't want the device to fall into the market of less "premium" devices, but honestly, they're selling a device with the specs of an iPad 2, which at this point in the game is quite outdated compared to just about any other tablet on the market.

If the mini had been released a year ago, it might have made a compelling case for itself. Now, however, it is simply behind the times.

It shouldn't do well compared to the other tablets because of its price, however it doesn't work like that in the real world. In the real world these types of things are bought for their social status and/or as a fashion statement. Whether OCN likes it or not, the iPad Mini is going to sell very well.

As a nexus 7 owner I was excited to see the release of the mini, it was exacally what I have been waiting for!!........Because I have been waiting for "incase" to make a nexus 7 sized sleeve, they will surely make one for the mini and I can use that for my nexus, just like I use their apple marketed 13" air sleeve for my netbook haha.

I hope you're not directing that at me, but if you are, here is my response: text will look crisper on a "retina" display. I am not saying I couldn't, but I wouldn't be able to justify the purchase otherwise.

If that wasn't directed at me, carry on. smile.gif

It doesn't seem to explain why it's superior to the Nexus 7's hardware either.

totally just getting into nice phones and tablets and have to say, i chose my SIII over the iphone 5 and now looing at the Nexus7 way over the ipad. the price alone had me. Then add in the hardware into the equation and i'm sold... "i" anything is just not for me.

not impressed with this mini.
