[Engadget] iPad Mini Review - Page 10

Again with the Apple hate, lol. Apple makes a very nice OS, that works well on attractive devices for most people. Not everyone wants to download the latest live wallpapers, or anxiously awaits the next hottest launcher release. Some people just want something that looks nice, is reliable, and feels well made. I have spent time with many different tablets, and phones. The Apple products, even though they are not as higher performing, generally seem more polished and optimized overall. IDK, just my personal opinion, but a lot of Android stuff to me seems gimmicky and cheap.

Perfect phone=Apple reliability and design + Android customizability.
Perfect tablet = see above

Just my opinion. Let the hate pour in

Lol at the iPad 2 being outdated comments. Outdated for what? Browsing the web? What do you people think normal iPad people do with their tablets? rolleyes.gif

The problem with this way of thinking is that you can get a tablet that is way more powerful than the iPad Mini for almost HALF the price. People tell me they're getting an iPad mini. The first question I ask them is "Why?" The answer I get the most is "It's a smaller iPad. Don't you want one?" doh.gif

After that, I get to explain to them how they can get a more powerful tablet (Nexus 7) for far less money. They always allude to the "iOS is so much smoother, though." Fortunately, I now have a Nexus 7, and let me tell you, iOS is NOT smoother anymore. Android 4.2 and iOS 6 are neck and neck on overall smoothness. That's a problem for Apple, because their tablets cost a lot more, and the experience on them is no longer far and away better. So what are you left with?

A name. That's what iPad is now. A name. This time next year, Apple will have lost more marketshare to Android devices all thanks to the Nexus 4, 7, and 10. It's going to happen. The price of entry on Android is far lower now, and the specs are equal or better. The OS isn't clunky anymore either.

Apple had better start innovating again, or Google is going to run all over them with their Nexus lineup, and it is going to start with their latest mis-steps: iPhone 5 and iPad Mini. Mark my words.

Okay. I really don't get it. The iPad 2 is being compared to a 199$ Nexus 7. That s a 130$ difference! Better battery life cannot justify that. And iOS vs android its a matter of personal opinion ,it shouldn't be brought in when justifying the price.
And someone in this thread mentioned 'polished', 'reliability','perfect', 'attractive device'. I just dont..... sigh. rolleyes.gif

Why would anyone logically buy this device? Unless you love apple? How is it 'justifiably ' better?

I guess its down to the individual now. I know I will never buy an apple product unless its the best in that price bracket. Most of the apple hates here aren't blindly biased against their products. Theres always something cheaper and better and just as reliable.
In a way its like COD tongue.gif Everybody hates on it, yet it breaks sales records.

And how many years did it take Google to achieve that level of smoothness?

I love this argument and it always shows up in a discussion like this. It doesn't matter how long it took. What matters is that they have, and it exists now, at a lower price point, with better hardware.

Don't dwell on the past. Look towards the future. thumb.gif

Typically, they do have good reviews. They're usually my go-to "reading" review. Although they are incredibly pro-Apple which gets to be a pain in the butt sometimes, but I still love the site and their reviews.
