[CVG] EA boasts 30 million registered Origin users

Electronic Arts' online platform Origin has amassed thirty million registered users, the company has announced.

Speaking at an investor call on Tuesday, the company said that nearly half of Origin's registered userbase comes from mobile. The group did not provide any detail on Origin's active user base, though it did say that about 4 million users are paying users.
EA also stated that some 70 games studios sell their games through Origin.

Peter Moore, the publisher's second-in-command, last week told CVG that the company is focused on enhancing its Origin service on PC and mobiles only - suggesting that a long-rumoured Wii U edition is not likely soon.

Asked whether the full Origin experience will become available on Nintendo's Wii U system, Moore told CVG: "We haven't made any announcements on that".

"Origin continues to be a PC-centric service, one that's moving quickly to mobile, but as things evolve in the coming years we'll look at where the demand is. But at the moment Origin is very much PC centric and mobile centric."

Recently it was revealed that Electronic Arts had updated its user licence agreement to explain that all of the publisher's Wii U games will be tied to an Origin account. The deal between Nintendo and EA that has led to this decision is still unclear.

I wonder why nintendo wouldn't use its own digital distribution service doh.gif

lol 30 million users, but only 4 million actually bought games.
that's a lot of users who got free games with their glitched promo code.

I don't think this is something they should be bragging about.rolleyes.gif

Only because EA requires you to have an account just to play your game. And XBox users are automatically enrolled in some games, or are also forced to sign up to play. Completely artificial numbers here just to make EA look good
post #4 of 138
Big numbers mean something to stock holders, so EA tells them these big numbers. Its all about short term profits and the perception of lots of potential sales etc.

No kidding, I can think of 5 friends that got suckered into using it and none of them have it installed anymore. Just bad.

yearp, they are truly sell outs imo, its really depressing how they are trying to be the best and gloat about it when they are releasing games with issues, and no community feedback. honestly take a look at nfsmw 2012 it just does not look a need for speed game, and from the reviews ive seen and game play it does not play like one either. they are making the money but using it in all the wrong places, they waste tons on crappy customer support that will always elevate you to the next level, but they dont spend enough making sure these bugs dont happen in the first place.

they really need to get back to the basics, and stop paying people to write articles on how good of a company they are, and stop gloating on numbers that only produce more money. They just need to not suck.

no more than 100k received free games..

It was short lived and required minor technical knowledge/ip originating from certain countries

I bought Mass Effect with the glicthed code just to have a digital version and every time I try to launch the game it crashes. Don't know whether it's origin or the game but considering I've played the game on this very rig before I lean towards the former.
