[CVG] EA boasts 30 million registered Origin users - Page 14

So, I buy Skyrim, have it shipped overseas. I put the disc in and voila, Steam pops up to download the game. I promptly cancel that and install from the disc. But wait, I >have< to install updates before I can launch the game and be able to use the offline mode.

Does anybody know how much time it takes to download ~800MB on a JPI Worldwide connection in Logar province? Yeah, thought not.

On the other hand, same method for BF3. I could cancel the updates on Origin and proceed to play the SP campaign. Good enough.

My point being, I don't like either of them as a form of DRM. Not to praise them olden days, but buying a game disc meant you could actually play the game without jumping through fiery hoops.

Oh and when at home I don't really give a damn about either of them, I just tolerate them, but boy do you learn to hate stuff when excluded from civilization.

Exactly what I did. Still had to go through the initial update before I could launch. Subsequent updates I ignored.

It's not like they started from zero - old ea accounts are converted to Origin when you try to do anything with new offers/games/etc.

I dislike EA just as much as everyone else, they screwed up my BF3 order big time... but when It really comes down to it, the origin client does what its intended to do, you log in, you click "play" and your game launches... its not the horrendous experience everyone is making it out to be, to be fair the only reason I started using steam is free games. back in 2004 I think, I purchased an ATI Radeon 9600XT, which came with a large package of free valve games. got HL1 Hl2, CS1.6, CSS, day of defeat, ricochet, and team fortress classic. at the time the DRM was quite annoying, in fact it crashed a lot, and ALWAYS required updating, but It didn't bother me because I got over $100 in free games. I guess what I'm saying is, if you don't like the always on DRM, get a damn console LOL.

Your searching wrong? I play bf3 just about everyday and i have to wait for servers to open a spot. If you refine your search i get 15-20 servers when i search game map and type together. Those are full/5 or less spots left. If i remove those filters it will pull up 50+ while still filtered for us.

Two of those users are me. I had an EA account and a Bioware account registered under different emails, and the pricks in EA customer support wouldn't merge them when I asked(presumably because then they would only be able to boast 29,999,999 Origin users).

And then on top of that they pretty much defrauded me out of a game I purchased before the Bioware acquisition when they made the digital version of Jade Empire disappear from the Bioware store and wouldn't respond to my inquiries about the matter.

So yeah, screw 'em.
