[CVG] EA boasts 30 million registered Origin users - Page 8

its a shame because i have 9 accounts from when there was that free code. because it said one use per account and i didn't want to get banned or lose my games, i just made a ton of accounts tongue.gif
and i know that i'm not the only person to do this
post #72 of 138
REALLY?

Origin isn't that bad guys. It's rather lightweight now and doesn't obstruct me with advertisements or other silly alerts. Quietly runs in the background...
Steam is basically the same thing as Origin; just with a fully developed community/friends network.

Competition is good nonetheless, whether you like Origin or not - me? I just don't mind.

Steam may be considered better, but its been around a lot longer, its done things to piss us off, and its done good things to please us, and thats what has shaped Steam into the client you apparently adore. Yet Origin is not allowed to have its first steps, straight from the womb and pulling a 9 to 5 with you. And since your from EA, we'll make sure to pick apart every little thing you do, even a single bad step and your done, it'll be over. Seriously, do some of you not get it yet?
I'll be cheering Origin only because I want to see Steam have to compete and not get a free ride on everything.

This. Changing the clients name from EA Download Manager to Origin, doesn't mean Origin hasn't been around for quite sometime. Before you even say, EA download manager was essentially just that, a download manager. Then I suggest you take a look at what Steam was originally.

Fuell, Origin is allowed to have its first steps. In fact for how long the client has been around, its had plenty. This doesn't change the fact that Steam had a very similar background of not being accepted by the public until it's proven that's it worthy. Origin needs to do the same.

Grizzle is arguing that that people use DRM clients to download and play their games (Correct me if I'm wrong). While this is true, it's also not the only reason people use these clients. People are arguing completely different points, the fact that people think Grizzle is right, or so and so is right because of the side they take is rather baffling when almost every argument I read (I didn't read all) doesn't counter the others argument.

People have come to realize DRM's like Steam and Origin are the future. So people who do need to use a DRM client, they would like it to be more than just a DRM client that allows you to download games and play them. People want a feature rich client. Steam fulfills this in many peoples mind, where as Origin does not.

I'm probably included in that list, I bought BF3 when it first came out and played it for about 3 weeks. Haven't had origin installed since.

I have roughly 7 or 8 games on my origin and I did not pay for any of them. I got them all free. Its the only reason I even have an origin account.

This is the same reason that I sold BF3. EA ruined the experience for me. Steam is not even in the same league as ea's garbage. I'm not saying that as a steam fanboy either. I gave ea a fair shot, but it just doesn't work well.

I wil try again for Crysis 3, but MAN, I don't want to. Always online is a dumb idea, unless you have a store or marketplace similar to Diablo 3, and you are trying to protect account information.

That being said, there should be an OPTION TO OPT OUT. (Someone is going to say: "There is. Don't buy the game") I can feel it coming, lol. But you shouldn't have to resort to that.

Seriously how do some people not get why some people have more faith in Steam than anything EA can come up with...

1.
"Got there first"? Really?

You mean like how Microsoft "got there first" for windowed guis?

Or how Apple "got there first" for gesture based phone operating systems?

Or how IBM "got there first"?

Or how iTunes "got there first?

Hell screw competition right? Whoever creates a successful product immediately owns all the rights to the very concept of it and nobody is allowed to do anything remotely similar, right?

We should all just watch the first TV station ever made, drive the same car made by the same car company ever made.......hell why don't we all just play games only from the first gaming dev company ever made? Who was the first publisher? They got there first! Why does Valve even exist anyway? Don't they know someone else got there first?

Come to think of it, why does the USA even exist? I'm pretty sure the Indians got there first?

Everything would just be a whole lot better if people would just accept that someone else got there first.....

Come on man.....

2.

So wait, STEAM proves to other gaming publishers/devs that the STEAM commerce/distribution model (aka a publisher running a store and locking loads of games to their client) is a viable business model, but for some reason its actually EA that set the precedent.....because they copied an existing business model?

How do you set the precedent for something somebody else already set the precedent for? Especially when your apparent precedent is simply a copy of a previeously set precedent set by somebody else?

STEAM is the catalyst for other publishers using the STEAM model, but somehow you're convinced that the source of that comes from other companies following the STEAM model....

So even as you outline what you don't like, you attempt to blame the consequence of the precedent instead of the cause......but because the cause is linked to what you hold dear......its somehow the consequences fault that there is a consequence.......

Thats a great idea! I'll use that in court one day.

I'm going to shoot a dog and when they attempt to arrest me, I'm going to blame the gun and the fact that a bullet came out of it. Sure I was the actual cause of the bullet hitting the dog, but who am I to use logic and such things? Its the consequences fault that there is a consequence! The dog inst dead because I shot it, its dead because it died. Makes sense!

Since when has cause been directly linked to consequence anyway LOL???

poke.gif

I don't know what it is about people discussing Steam, but the amount of purely illogical and irrational behavior when it comes to discussing it goes way past anything I've ever seen.

Truly amazing.

and what every steam account is a legitimate user?

If anyone has ever done steam trading they would see the tons of dummy accounts to setup trades, scam accounts, team fortress 2 farming accounts, accounts to setup games that require a vpn there are so many. Im not saying EA has more users than steam or does not have dummy accounts but just telling you that steam suffers from the same. Except when there was a post on OCN about steam reaching a certain amount of accountsit was all praise and fanboyism.

Typical OCN.

Oh also many people in this thread like to point out how EA forces people to use origin to play their games, while conveniently leaving out that steam does the same.
