First Time Build Installation Questions and help

Thread Starter
I have all the parts and am ready to start building but I have a couple questions. I read thru the guides here and a couple other places but found no info.

Should I use the stock cooler for now to make sure all my RAM is working? Otherwise with the Phanteks CPU Cooler, I would most likely have to remove that to get the RAM out, correct? I do plan on breadboarding this first. When I finish that what should I leave on the motherboard when mounting it to case?

Any suggestions, helps, tips or tricks appreciated. My build is below.

CPU Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V DELUXE

I would use the better cooler, just fill the ram slots that the fan will cover if you are concerned about the memory on boot up. You bought good memory it should be fine. I would install everything and fix any problems IF they arise. Ensure the better cooler has thermal paste, if not, USE IT. Make sure you work in a "clean environment", no cats or dogs jumping around, wash your hands and be careful with the components. Keep the board manual/diagram handy just in case you need it.

One of my computers doesn't like to format when I have additional storage drives attached. I make it a habit to only have the drive I'm formatting connected. After formatting, I connect the additional drives and quick format through disk manager.

Computer components these days are nicely labelled and color coded. Years ago it was a lot more difficult to build a system for the first time. Afterwards, I have no doubt you with think.. that was easy! Nice build though, enjoy.

Dominating..?

if you're using the mechanicals as storage you probably won't notice a difference going to a lower end drive. just an opinion.
and you might want to use 2 or more of the same in a raid

Check out sean's windows 7 guide
when you install windows just have the os drive plugged in

I am using this for gaming and video editing/creating. Thanks for the info.
I feel much better about the Planteks install now
I will make sure just to have the SSD plugged when I load Windows 7. The HDDs are mainly for storage.
Where would I find Seans Windows 7 Guide. Its underlined but no link when I click on it.

I was also wondering about SLI. Should I just try 1 GPU for first boot up or have them both installed.

And should I flash to the latest bios before I install the OS?
