Netgear wifi router n150 question.

Hey guys.

I have a netgear n150 wifi router, not the maxrange version, just the normal version. Its the one without the external little antenna. It works ok, but its got a very small range. I guess my question is, do the netgear n300 or n600 routers have better range? Or does 150, 300, 600 only mean max bandwidth? This N150 has more then enough bandwidth for me. I only have 15Mbit download and 1Mbit upload so it should be ok, but its range sucks. There is a netgear N150 MAXRANGE version. has anyone used that one? Is the range much better?

Do any of you have any tips of tricks to getting extra range out of a wifi router? one without an external antenna?

Ps: any suggestion on a new, better router would be appreciated.

Thanks
Happy time PC.

First that bandwidth that is measure on the box or listed is only between your machine and the router.
So that will only really affect you if you are streaming with in your own network.
Also you should test your network inference and see if you are getting hammer buy other's.

Secondly where is the router and how far are you between the router?

Thirdly what is adapter you are using on the receiving end of the broadcast? Wireless N (2.4GHZ, or 5.8GHZ?)

For a new router suggestion it really depends on client's that are connecting to the router and what your plans are for your network at this given time and for future plans.

Hey, thanks for the repley.

Ok the wifi router is about 20-25 feet away from the reciever. There is only 1 internal wall between the two. They are on the same floor. Not upstairs, downstairs. Both on the 1st floor. Router in bedroon, reciever in the living room. Its a small 1 bed room condo.

The recieving side is a Logitech Google TV. Not sure what Ghz it is. Its called "Logitech review" or something like that. Its awesome. But the wifi connection always shows as either ok or good. ie: Its got a possible 5 bars. and its almost always at either 2 or 3 or 4 but mostly 2 and 3 bars. Only once in a while will it be at 4. but my wifi router is only about 20-25 feet away. Thats bad performance in my opinion.

PS: There are MANY MANY other routers within range. I live in a condo with a fairly high number of college students so there is lots of wifi going on.

Thanks

Alright since you google tv you need to download inssider app from the market and test.
Then test 1, 6 , 11 channel and see which you the best dbi -50 is best.

Also this will tell me if you are connecting via 2.4ghz or 5.8ghz.

From there I can make more suggestions.

I hope that app will work on my google tv. Some of the apps in the google play store are compatible. I will get that app if it'll work. And I will report back to you.

Thanks again for your help

I went to the google play store.
I searched for inssider. It didn't show up. Only apps that are compatible with google tv will show up. So I guess it's not. But I was able to look I to the setting area where the wifi is. And it says I'm at -72 signal. I can log into my router and see what Chanel I'm using. If its not using 1, 6, or 11 I will switch it to one of those.

Ok I checked and I was on channel 11. So I'm trying channel 1 now.
I went back into the wifi settings area and checked my signal again. Now it says -53.
