EVGA BIOS + Backplate issue

Thread Starter
I just received my X79 FTW today and I am having issues with flashing the BIOS.

I ran the Windows BIOS flasher - it said type Y in capital letters then hit enter. I did so and then Windows prompts me saying "Windows will now shut down" almost instantaneously then my computer shuts off. I've tried 3 different times and I have kept having the same results and it's getting very frustrating. I am using Windows 8 Release Preview x64 if that matters.

I also have another issue - I recieved the wrong back plate with my EVGA FTW (151)

How would I go about getting the correct one sent too me? Thanks !

I wouldn't ever try flashing my BIOS from windows, let alone an RC version. You can do it from the BIOS can't you?

As for your backplate, call up your supplier and explain it to them, It sounds as though the box has been opened already.

I got in contact with EVGA for both issues - extremely fast response. They're sending me an I/O plate no questions asked. Their customer service is great. They also directed me to a link that showed me how to flash the BIOS on this board. I had to make a bootable USB and flash w/ a Windows 98 DOS system. Surprisingly there is no BIOS flash/update option in the BIOS! I've also had issues with the board not being able to post and requiring a CMOS reset every time I restart the board. Not only that - but sometimes my OS becomes unstable as well.

No such issues happen @ stock settings - but if I set my XMP settings or turn on Gen3 PCI-E I begin running into issues. It's frustrating that I can't even mess with overclocking because I am running into stability issues WITHOUT overclocking...I wish I would have looked into this board more before jumping the gun on purchasing it.

I don't believe the box was already opened - as all components that came with it where sealed in nice anti static bags - including the incorrect back plate. I did notice that my S/N sticker and extra 8 pin stickers where placed in odd places though. My S/N sticker is placed right on top of a POSCAP so one side is lifted up,
