I'm ordering my new graphics card this weekend and I still can't make my mind up. I'm an nvidia fan but the 7970 performance when overclocked is quite impressive, especially with the new beta drivers. Help!

Those the only choices?

Over those two I would pick the lightning, largely because I can't see the matrix being justified over a standard 7970.

That being said, for the price I'd rather pick up 2 standard reference 7970/7950

id go with a 7970 maybe a msi 7970 lighting they overclock good and run cool.

Why not the MSI 7970 Lightning? You'll get better performance than the 680 Lightning, and it is cheaper than either of the cards you mentioned.

7970 is also a good option...actually the same price though.

These are the two I've narrowed it down to. I may be wrong but after searching around these seemed to be the best 7970 and 680. The Matrix is only £50 more than the reference 7970 which I think is worth it for the much quieter fans and extra 100 MHz that people can squeeze out of it.

In that case get the 7970 Matrix, you'll get better performance for a lower price.

At least here in the Netherlands, the 680 Lightning starts at €500 (average €544), while the 7970 Matrix starts at €450 (average €481). I am guessing the prices in the UK follow the same pattern.

I just said the 7970 Lightning because I am not keep on triple slot cards. I'd take double slot cards over triple any day. The LED on the Lightning is pretty nice, too.

Indeed, same price as the 7970 Matrix, cheaper than the 680 Lightning though.
