mini build brainstorming

So after selling my monsterous A71F system, I'm going to be switching to the mini form factor.
Initially I wanted the prodigy because it had easy support for watercooling. But for its size I dont consider it m-itx so a m-itx case was making more sense (which in somem-atx are smaller), and enable expandability with mobo options.

M-ITX options
Prodegy
Node 304
Lian-LI Q25B

M-ATX options
Fractal design Define
Fractal Design Arc Mini
Silverstone PS07
Lian Li A04

These are all ones I'm looking at. I'm liking the Node 304 and Q25B for itx. Also now the A04 (because its resemblence to the a71F). Al the m-atx cases I listed seem to have pros and cons. Are there any that would be better than others?

To me the A04 seems to be able to be modded to have at least 2 240 rads (front and bottom? top even maybe)

I really want a small case but at the same time able to potentially watercool (cpu and gpu). I'm torn between wanting the small size of itx or options to water cool at the expense of size. I'm also wanting the system to be efficient, using little power

The parts I'll most likely have is as follows
asrock z77 itx
i3 3220
7770 or 7850
Silverstone SFX450 (used in a m-atx to save space to potentially add a radiator?)
1TB HDD, 2 120gb SSD (or if a good sale, may have 4 SSDs)

I'd like to hear thoughts from you experts of these cases. What about cable management with the m-atx (behind mobo spacing). WC'ing options for the m-itx (aside from the prodigy)

One thing. I dont want a h100 or any variation. I certainly would want less cable clutter.

This is new territory for me. Maybe this will be a wrong place to ask but 40/80/92mm rads do alright in these cases like the m-itx? the m-atx cases I can work with 120 or 240 rads. Even thought just now to use like a 2x92 rad on the bottom on its side (like you see in TJ07 cases for the 140s) and use 120 where the case fans are in the A04 case or what not.

I know these aren't the cases you are looking at but.... if you want small then I'd definitely recommend the SG05 or the SG07/08 if you want something a bit bigger. The SG05 can come with the Silverstone SFX450 bundled with it. Cable management isn't the best on the SG05, not sure about the SG07/08.

You can fit a custom water loop in both, and there's space for even the most powerful graphics cards.

+1 for Asrock Z77E-ITX

GPU: If you are gaming I would highly recommend the 7850 over the 7770.

Quick question... why 2x 128GB SSD and not 1x 256GB SSD?

Cheers,

DB

+1 for the node. i think the watercooling potential is good for its size. And if you go matx my vote is for the arc mini. the watercooling in that is good as well. silverstone also offers what the claim to be the worlds smallest atx psu if you are interesting in more juice. their sfx also has a new gold modular version if you were referring to the original bronze
post #6 of 9
also the ft03 matx can house some watercooling. i know its not for everyone, but in the interest of exploring options i thought i'd mention it. My next build is most likely going to be in an ft03-mini itx

I think the sg07 is ugly lol. To each their own. the sg05 (includes a 600w psu, but its not modular frown.gif ). Which Silverstone are you speaking of dbterp?
I only see the sg05 with the sfx300 (which is not modular).

the ft03 I don't like. The reason i dont want the arc mini is because I feel I can get something smaller and still do WC'ing nicely.
I dont do much gaming now. I havent in over 6months (working 2 jobs now). I will be doing a lot of photo editing and very light gaming.

reason why 2 128gb ssds because I already have 1 120gb vertex 3 drive wink.gif

Doing some thinking and looking at pictures of the node 304.. Something pretty ingenious I thought but will take some modding thumb.gif
My idea (if I got the case) flip the psu so its exhaust is pointed downward and intake is on the side. So you flip the psu 90 degrees, that way you have more room towards the front to mount a pump/res or rad. And since my plan is to use a SFX psu, it'd work. I would just need to take out a hdd/ssd bay or two.

I could put a 140 rad in the rear, I finally found the sfx 450 gold psu at ncix (newegg doesnt have everything biggrin.gif ). How short are these cables? If I did go with a m-atx build would they reach? if I went with m-atx I'd probably get the PS07 or prodigy
