Scythe Infinity

Thread Starter
just installed my scythe infinity with silverstone fm121 and wow has my temps droppped DRASTICALLY in speedfan. with stock cooling i had my sandy 3700 clocked around 2600 and would get 55 degrees with full load after 10 minutes. with the infinity and silverstone i have my sandy clocked to 800 and my temp at full load is around 40 TOPS!! this is with the fan setting less than halfway!! wowzers i dont really feel the urge to OC more.. should I?

QUESTIONS:

1) i was wondering if i should place the fan between the heatsink and the video card or between the heatsink and PSU???

2) when i put my hand over the fan i should feel it BLOWing not sucking right?

The fan should be pushing air through the heatsink. Therefore, it should be at the bottom, pushing up towards the PSU (hot air rises, remember - you don't want the fan pushing warm air down through the heatsink).

Also, very nice temps. Make sure the temp you look at is the Core temp on speedfan, and not Temp1 (CPU), and that Core temp stays below 55C.

well when i put my hand over the fan its blowing on my hand.. in other words it appears it is sucking air from the core and blowing it away from the heatsink.. is this bad? its the way they have it shown to install in te manual isnt it??

Push is always better than pull, except for the occasional heatsink which is designed for pull (ie, has a shroud around the heatsink). But, you're getting great temps, so no need to change it I guess.

It does work better when blowing THRU the heatsink. Fans are more efficient at pushing air rather than pulling it.

There is an arrow on the fan shroud that shows the direction it blows.

ahhh thank you for that tip. i checkd it and the fan IS blowing into the hatsink. so although i feel it when i put my hand over the fan its actually blowing onto the heatsink. so i guess thats why im getting great temps! yay i dont have to turn it aroundd
