Don't know much about networking, but I like the idea that it sends packets more often and without waiting for a response which leads to better hit detection, who knows could be snake oil, but for 45 bones I'm willing to try.

I saw that 45$ one, but didn't want to spent that much money on it.

nah, but its a realtek and i've read they don't handle the load of games when there are many players on the map well. Figured I would try an intel maybe, but I'm interested to know if there are any that use a processor as opposed to being software based.

I don't know where you read that, but it's not true. When playing games with many players, you don't connect to each player. You only connect to the server, thus only use one connection.

I've been using onboard NICs for years and have had no problems, even torrenting with hundreds of connections without any issue.

Your NIC won't hold you back, your ISP will.

Unless your current NIC is giving you issues, I wouldn't bother replacing it.

Sounds like you've never used one. As the old saying goes, don't knock it until you've tried it.thumb.gif

Actually, my current motherboard has an Intel LAN chip. And I see no difference between this chip and the Realtek LAN chips my last three boards had.

You can do whatever you want, its your money. I'm just saying that you most likely won't notice a difference by installing a dedicated NIC.

Don't mean to advocate for the Killer for no reason but I've been playing BF3 with it and I've gone from 1/1 k/d ratio to about 2.5/1 k/d ratio, sometimes better. I just notice the impact marker coming up more often telling me the shot hit. Just played a game and finished 38 to 9 k/d. Anyway, awesome card so far.thumb.gif
