Can I install Xubuntu and keep all of my data?

I have Ubuntu 12.10 installed right now with unity and Xfce (xubuntu-desktop). However I absolutely hate unity now and even hate booting into it. So I was thinking of installing xubuntu 12.10 and therefore getting rid of unity boot screen. However I want to know if there is an option to like re-install and keep all of my data without moving it. I can't remember.

Also this would hopefully solve my problems with my LAMP stack that I've been having.

Just install the package xubuntu-desktop or what ever it is.

and "sudo apt-get install php5 mysql-server apache2" should work on anything debian.

I already have that package, but when I shut down the system and then reboot it still boots me into the crapy unity login.

I do have that installed, but something is wrong as you can see in ,this other thread.

I tried that with sudo service apache2 start etc. but it failed to change anything. There were a few answers in the thread which I am still to try due to thousands of little zombies and pumpkins at my door!!
