Getting sound from PS3 to PC

Thread Starter
Hey all!

I just recently connected my PS3 to my monitor since both me and my husband are gamer, and he's using the TV for the xBox. So I have everything working and all but the sound. I just bought a converter

http://www.amazon.com/RiteAV-3-5mm-Stereo-Female-Cable/dp/B0018MI5F6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327544563&sr=8-1

and tried hooking the whole thing up. Been trying for half an hour now and still no success.
Anyone could give me a hand? Thanks! smile.gif

you should be able to use hdmi and analog audio out at the same time, although i have heard it doesn't always work.
otherwise getting a ps3 vga/rca cable will work.

How is the PS3 connected to the monitor? Is it over HDMI?

By default the PS3 will send all the audio over a connected HDMI connection. You will need to specificy within the settings on the console to send the audio out the other connection.

You posted a link to this.

So I think it is safe to assume you are connecting your monitor via HDMI and you wish to use this

With the converter above to push audio to the PC/speakers?

It is possible to do this.

On your PS3

Look under the SETTINGS > SOUND SETTINGS > AUDIO MULTI OUTPUT (ON/OFF).

There are limitations such as you can't get more then 5.1 channels over HDMI when set to ON and HDMI will be down converted to 44.1/48 kHz.

Hope this helps,

I have my ps3 through my pc monitor. You need a dual line in jack. Set picture to hdmi and sound to your rca leads in ps3 menu and plug it into your line in port on your mobo. use the red and white plugs from the ps3, yellow for video

there should be RCA red and white audio out jacks, otherwise do what i did, and run a speaker cable from the headphone jack on the monitor/small tv to the back of the PC on the line in jack on the sound card

there are also RCA to 3.5mm jack conversion cables, in which in this instance youd need, the 3.5mm end would go in the sound card, and the RCA end in the red/white on the tv/monitor on the "audio out" ports

Yea that's exactly what I did. I used the HDMI cable to connect to the converter, converter to PC. And as soon as I connect it, any sound that was originally coming from the PC is being cut off. So I guess that VGA/RCA cable would be my last option?!

Cause what I'm trying to do really is to get the sound from the PC and to my Turtle Beach Headset. I'm probably doing something wrong.

I have. PS3 to Converter... Converter to Sound card. Then Turtle Beach connected via USB on my PS3 so it gives it power and gets recognized by the PS3, and then connected to the PC for sound. Please tell me I'm doing it wrong lol!

ok, you want it ot your turtle beach headset aswell, which model do you have? itll give me an idea of what you need.

if you have an x35 headset or higher like i do, you can use one of these: http://www.amazon.ca/Headphone-Splitter-Stereo-3-5mm-Adapter/dp/B003JUWQLY

to split the output from your green speaker plug on your sound card, to the turtle beach headset reciever and the pc speakers like i do, and then just run a line from the ps3 wether its off that RCA cable that plugs into it, or from the monitor ( if it has a headphone jack or RCA line outs, check which) and run that line to the pc line in, and you have your sound.

if it sounds confusing, let me know and ill draw up a diagram.

The model I have is the EarForce P11. WIth that headset, I also had an RCA connection that connects to the back of the TV, and the headset connects in it. Thats how I used to get my sound on the Turtle Beach from the tv...
