so it's like completely free? i haven't played CS since the 1.5 and 1.6 days which was oh man... 12 years ago around there. do i just need to install the steam app and download it from there? no strings attached, right? like paying after the tournament is over?

It is free for the weekend after that you will need to buy it or it will be removed from your games list.

I bought it when it first came out and I'm still not sure how I feel about it, to be honest. It is cool they are making it FTP for this weekend, though, should allow a lot of people who might be on the fence about buying it to test it out.

The price is perfect. A free to play FPS, let alone one that carries the iconic Counter-Strike name would be a disaster filled with noobs and cheaters alike.


It's just like it was back in the day, I remember when gamestop were selling some bundle that included HL and a bunch of the other randoms, each one came with a CD key that could be entered for a CS 1.6 account. I paid 20$ for that boxed pack, got 4-5 CD keys. Can't get any cheaper than that.


Free weekends like this are a great way for some of the older players, who've been out of the game for a while to come back and see how much has changed. Noobs and COD addicts probably will not like cs go at all, completely different game. No more running and gunning hoping your reflexes are faster than the other, try that in cs go and the other players will start calling you target practice.

Tactical shooters ftw! I can play inferno all day and never get bored.

CS:GO is well worth the $15, let alone sale price of $10. Just buy it. FTP stuff wouldn't really work with the magnitude of server side mods out there. I'v played in servers running a Minis Tirith Zombie Escape mod with humans as Gondor Soldiers and zombies as Orcs and Trolls. The only stock CS skin in the map was the guns. Another way servers raise donor money is by letting donors have access to different skins.

Changing CS to FTP with buyable skins could seriously change the modded server environment. Leave CS alone please...
