What's wrong with XFX?

Thread Starter

Hello,

So I keep seeing thread where people claim that the XFX support is awful, and that their RMA is pretty painful. I must say that I personally had a great experience with them, especially since it takes them on average 20 minutes to answer a support ticket. One of my friend also had to do a RMA with them and it took about 2 weeks (including weekends) for him to have the card replaced.

Now my question is, why is XFX regarded as one of the company to have sub-par customer service around here?

XFX is worse than MSI, but then I have never had a problem with MSI either. I have RMA'd lots of mobos and got it back in less than 2 weeks. < Disclaimer - It was my fault I killed them.

If you ask me its just far too many people with bad experiences and not enough with good ones. But when that many people are saying they had a bad experience, its safe to say you will too.

I've never RMA'd anything, except for one XFX mobo (back in the 680i days). Although, to be fair, they did great by me.

Well that is not exactly true, I did RMA OCZ Ram, but it turned out it was the aforementioned mobo's fault.

I have used XFX for every card up until my 6970, and haven't had a single issue...but everyones situation varries
post #5 of 15
Because of the herd mentality. More than half of the people bashing xfx have never even owned an xfx card.

There was one vocal poster here a year or 2 ago. Nvspec had his Rma denied and ever since then people have jumped on the bandwagon.

They are not without fault though. They had a terrible 4890 design that caused a large number of rmas. But xfx did make it right and replaced the cards and those 4890 were much cheaper in cost than other 4890. My opinion is they hit a market price for the quality and people were expecting to hit 1ghz clocks after reading the early reviews of reference cards.

That makes sense! +

Not sure - so far they havent been *that* bad with me - i had an inquiry on whether or not the Artic Cooling Accelero 7970 would fit on the XFX Core (Reference) 7970 with the revised PCB - newer core 7970s have a different PCB (no dual bios switch for example and a magneta colored dvi output) and they had no idea if it would be compatible or not.

My question was basically - is the revised pcb different enough from a Reference 7970 that an aftermarket cooler would not fit

but replies ranged from a couple hours to a couples, averaging a day - i asked if they could provide a pic of the pcb so i can at least guess - they told me to come back with the S/N and they might be able to dig something up so i can use that and show to Artic Cooling

Soo ya..not bad so far imo

I RMA'ed a 6950 and they returned it within the time frame I would expect (a couple of weeks I believe). I agree with the poster above, if one person complains about service, it will spread like crazy with 90% of the people having never owned an XFX product. I am sure they have their bad situations, but for every company with a call center, there is a minimum wage non technical person behind the desk following the script to the T that is going to give you a headache.
