[CB] Borderlands 2 Sells 5 Million, Take-Two Rakes In Big Cash From Digital Sales

Thread Starter
Quote:
Take-Two Interactive the parent company of subsidiaries 2K Games and Rockstar Games, posted their second quarter financial stats and it's looking good for the company. Borderlands 2 led the charge in sales for the company followed by XCOM: Enemy Unknown and, unsurprisingly, GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption. What might be surprising is that one of the biggest revenue increases for the company was actually from digital PC sales. Interesting, eh?
Quote:
What's also surprising (or maybe not) is that a big boost in the revenue of Take-Two's second quarter came from a digital sales. In fact, revenue was up 108% thanks to digital sales. We could safely assume a majority of that was due to those “PC pirates” given that Max Payne 3 and Borderlands 2 aren't available for digital download on the home consoles (unless you count PlayStation Plus). But right, we aren't supposed to talk about how PC gamers contribute a lot to the industry digitally...we're only supposed to talk about those 95% piracy figures.

Borderlands 2 is the bomb. I got it bundled with my GTX 660 TI, but I would have paid $50 for it. XCOM is next, but I need to finish BL2 first, hoping the price will come down a little in the meantime.

I wonder what kind of revenue is reflected from the bundled copies?

If this is possible with only 5% of legitimate buyers, imagine just how much profit the industry would receive with the other 95% not choosing to pirate. eek.giftongue.gif

Let this be a lesson to all publishers, which of course most of us have iterated all along. Make a good game, that does not disadvantage genuine buyers with god forsaken DRM and you WILL see healthy sales.

Good games sell.

Bad games don't.

DRM doesn't sell either.

EDIT: Red Dead Redemption... sad-smiley-002.gif... not pc.

CoD sells millions each year while tons of fantastic games don't, games supported with big marketing sell, regardless of their actual quality.
