Convince me to build AMD? - Page 2

I just want to be able to play my games without horrible lag. I don't know if it's my CPU or the GPU, but almost every game I play has massive lag spikes and stuttering.

Edit: BTW, my motherboard does not support overclocking so I would have to get a lower-end i5.

your gpu is fine, guildwars, diablo and borderlands are CPU intensive, you will benefit more from an i5 than an amd.

You will get a lot more with an i5. AMD should only be considered for their graphics card at the moment.

Probably a combination of both since they are both on the weaker side. However, switching to AMD is not what you want for games. Upgrade to an i5, then see if you need a better video card.

Alright guys, thanks for the advice. Which i5 would you recommend since I cannot overclock?

Get a 2500K or 3570K regardless. You can upgrade the board in the future and it's only like an extra $10 premium for the K series. It's best to spend the extra small amount of $$$ now incase you ever decide you want to get an OC'ing board and OC in the future. Also, the re-sale on K series is better.

That makes sense, I really hadn't thought of that. I guess I will see which is cheaper or maybe wait for Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales.

i highly suggest that you get a 3570k even if you cannot overclock yet, so later on if you need to upgrade again you only have to buy a motherboard, 3570k will last you for years.
For gaming, definately Intel. 3570k is a nice CPU.
