5,400 RPM RAID 0 vs. 7,200 RPM

Ok, as I'm planning to get or a 7,200 RPM Hdd, or a RAID 0 setup of two 5,400 RPM. Which of the two would perform better ?
It's for a notebook, so don't start screaming at me why on earth I'm getting 5,400 RPM drives

In term of speed, yes RAID will be faster. But would you not rather going through all the trouble setting up instead of just picking up a 7200 drive? I'll let you decide. Besides, it's for lap top, 2 drivers = more power consumption.

I don't know much about RAID, but it will make it heavier. But I would go 7200RPM.

In a lappy? One 7200RPM.

Two 5400's would probably be faster, but power consumption would go up, as would heat, and so would weight.

If it was for a desktop, I wouldve suggested you get Raid with the existing drive. However since its a laptop, I would strongly recommend you replace the 5400rpm HDD with a new 7200rpm (one hard drive will yield lesser power consumption and lesser heat created from it as opposed to 2 drives working simultaneously).

EDIT : This is because I could get the apple macbook (pro maybe..)

Higher load imes, and less overall responsiveness. Also, things like defrags and virus scans will go much slower. (Not sure of the FS OSX uses, you might not have to defrag, though.)

Wait here, I don't get it. Why are a game's database all stored on the hdd while playing ? Why is it not all loaded on the RAM's ? I mean wouldn't that be a huge performance boost ?

You will not get any higher FPS in games but you will definitely get faster loads of programs because it needs to access the programs stored in the HDD first, and THEN move them to the RAM.
