New PSU causing random restarts

Hi all,

Here is the scoop. I ordered a Corsair H60 cooler and it ran like a champ with my old Resewill 650w PSU. Ordered a new Corsair TX750M PSU and the issues started happening.

First, I had to RMA the new PSU because there was an issue with exposed cables on the SATA power wires. But before I sent it in I tested it out and it made my cooler run like crap (notorious random buzzing sound from the pump). And it did a random reboot but i figured I was getting a new PSU anyways and would see what happened.

Sent the PSU back and used old Rosewill PSU and everything was fine. Received the new new Corsair PSU, and not only does the pump still make that horrible buzzing sound, but my PC will randomly restart. Thought it was when it was under load, but it does it randomly even when just browsing the internet. I talked to Corsair about the cooler, and I have to RMA that back to them because they know about the buzzing issue and said they have a newer build of the cooler that doesn't do that. But now I have what I believe is a PSU that just randomly reboots my PC. I don't know what to do or test. I tried new power cable, new outlet, everything. There is no BSOD when it restarts, it just restarts. Anyone have any input? I don't want to RMA this PSU again, as it cost $17 bucks to do so and I already have to pay to send the cooler back now (ridiculous).

Thanks!

Most likely a protection is kicking in, my first though was a short... check everything again, maybe even take the motherboard out of the case and put it on a non-conductive surface... see if it stops doing it.
You should also test your RAM, run memtest and see if you get any errors.

Yes you have something causing a short. It could even be within the PSU, although Corsair makes some fine stuff. It is possible it could be the PSU. You should verify everything is right with your system though. One bad connection somewhere is all it takes to cause this issue. Check all of your connections and verify that no liitle screws are causing a short (ie on the mother board-loose and rolling around).

Thanks for the replies. I am going to check that out shortly here and update. Tell me if this is odd though. One of my psu screws to hold it to the case looked like it was poking into some metallic object inside the psu. It was really hard to see, but im going to check into that more as well.

After running Memtest, stripping it down, looking for shorts, and re-seating everything, I have determined that it is a bad PSU. I have my old Rosewill in there right now and no issues. I am a little disappointed with Corsair being that withing the last month I had to RMA to them 3 times. this isn't like them one bit. I will try one more PSU with them and if that is bunk then I'm done.
