[TS] EA posts $381 million loss, blames MoH for "soft" holiday outlook - Page 11

but this discussion is meaningless because this is a console world and the truth is PC gaming is all but dead.

I'm not saying it's a good idea for every gaming related company to have their own store. It's not a bad thing to have a few decent services (origin isn't broken, btw..), it's actually very good since competition promotes innovation which tends to be a good thing for the consumer.

That last statement is just silly.. tongue.gif PC gaming is very much alive and isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

i would like to understand why ppl think bf3 is the biggest disappointing? are u kidding me? go to game tracker and see how many server all full... ppl playing this game and with a new DLC coming on December...

ppl are blind to notice that BF3 has taken a big place in the FPS industry and they dont want to recognize that... why?
too much COD fanboysh? thumb.gif

BF3 has sold more than 17million copy, how is that a big disappointing? do i am missing something here?

Warfighter was a pretty massive flop and probably lost a lot of money.
You're making Origin seem like it's a bigger task to use than it really is. It's not all that different from using Steam and is actually more functional in some aspects. I need both to play the games enjoy so meh.. I'd rather not having either and just have all my games in one place to just lose if something goes wrong, but.. since no place around here sells PC games, I'm stuck with both. As long as they both continue to improve and cause the other to improve (this is why competition is good!), I'm alright with having them both.
There really isn't a comparison between steam and origin, other than the fact that they both allow you to buy games online. Origin is a mess

Origin?
Lol at blaming MOH

What proof do you have that origin has anything to do with this? EA makes most of their money from consoles anyways so even if origin had a huge negative rep (which it doesnt just people on ocn like to make it seem that way) It would not have been responsible for this huge loss. EA might have overblown their marketing and operating budgets, too many overhead costs, poor investments, too many salaries to pay. So many people in this thread have such a simplistic view of business hur dur origin.

Also if anyone here actually read the article, they are blaming medal of honor for the soft holiday outlook as in its potential losses to come for the holiday season, they are not blaming the $381 million loss on MOH.

Actually, I was just trolling, and have no proof at all to back up my statement. Please explain this "hur dur" thing, as I am highly interested. biggrin.gif

If you were trolling apologies but looking at this storm of a thread and some of the posters you can surely see how I would mistake it for someone actually seriously believing this.

Do we have any publishers that release good games semi steadily? It seems like this cycle that the big publishers are using for pushing yearly, or timed releases has a negative impact on the releases. Rushed/incomplete/buggy games.

I can't really think of any big publishers that are consistently releasing good games, not based on time as much as based on quality. Seems more like, the publisher says, "You have 3 years to do this, it is releasing after that point" Then the developer gets 2.5 years in, everyone knows the game needs another year or 1.5 to really become amazing and polished, yet it gets rushed to finish and comes out less than expected.

Just seems like some of the legendary developers who have been absorbed by various publishers have had a huge hit on their game quality. 2 big ones mentioned in here, Bioware and DICE. Most battlefield players can probably agree all of the BF games up till BF2 or 2142 were amazing games. I haven't played a lot of Bioware games, but I know they had their moment with some of the greatest RPG's ever, now some of their games seem be suffering.

Well at least we get to look forward to Kickstarter and Indie games, that don't have these kind of "limits". If they have a great idea, people will get behind it.

How about the fact that they killed Westwood and C&C. Last couple games have been crap.
