Firefox 16 (Vertical) Toolbar Order

I no longer use the Mozilla Help Forums because there are some real nasty trolls over there, who love to put people down but never seem to know the answers. Enough said. People like that just make me even more grateful for OCN where we all respect each other. thumb.gif

Here's my FF16 Toolbar problem:

This has been apparently a hot question all over the net; and one without a clear answer.

Briefly, I am running Win 7 64 bit and FF16 with identical add-ons - on two different machines.

Problem: On one computer the Open Tabs appear on the bottom (below the Menu Bar on the very top, then the Navigation Bar, and the Bookmark Toolbar; with the Add-on Bar) - Now That is Perfect

On the other machine - everything the same (FF16, all same Add-ons) and all add-on settings identical the toolbar order is from top to bottom: Menu Bar, then Open Tabs Bar (UGH!), then Navigation Bar, then the Bookmarks Bar.

How in the world can this be? How do I get the Open Tabs Bar on the bottom, where I want it? I have checked every setting.

Btw, I am comfortable in about:config; also routinely edit my Win 7 registry - completely without fear. thinking.gif

Please don't suggest I use another browser. My life is complicated enough as it is. rolleyes.gif

Oh wow, there used to be an option in the orange Firefox button that went, Firefox button > Options > Tabs on Top, and all we had to do was enable or disable it as we saw fit.  I didn't notice that they removed it because I grew to like (and prefer) having the tabs on top, but I still think it was stupid of them to remove the access to this option from the UI.

Fortunately, it is still an existing option.  Just double-click the following about:config entry, and it will instantly toggle the setting:

browser.tabs.onTop

Yeh, found it. Quite frankly, I feel more at home in the Win7 registry than in about:config, so I didn't want to mess with Texas, so to speak.

Btw, I thought you were dead. band.gif

Thanks for the help, as always TC. You are hands down one of the most knowledgeable guys on OCN.

As for "Let's all be friends" thing, can I have a moment to think about it? rolleyes.gif

One thing I like is that about:config's search is instantaneous.  I found this in under a minute by typing "tabs" and then looking for a setting that would toggle having tabs on top.  Although, I don't know how easily I would have found this if I hadn't known that there used to be an option in the UI called "Tabs on Top".  I mean, the reason I found this so easily after searching for "tabs" is that the "onTop" part of the setting name stuck out at me because I was looking for something like that.

Of course, I could have found it by searching for "top" being that I remember seeing a "Tabs on Top" option in Firefox's older UI.

Nah, I just don't participate on OCN as much as I used to because of this platform.

Thank you, but you know I'll never agree with the correctness such compliments.  ;)

Well, ok, but just be careful.  Don't forget what happened the last time you tried to think!

Yeh, we can sure agree on that. To tell you the truth, I got so sick and tired of listing up problems/malfunctions/Oops in the code that I just gave up after they were greeted with a kind of take it or leave it insolence. I see it's still the same-o-same-o problems. Quite frankly, it's the only site I'm on where the site code is so shabby.

But if the Powers That Wanna Be don't give a flip, why should I? biggrin.gif

All I can say is that was unkind. I'm devastated. rolleyes.gif

Just so you don't think I'm your average idiot, I didn't really search around about:config all that much but will do so in the future. Was a bit lazy, I guess.

Yeah, you're right: it was devastating!  We had to call in The National Guard!  :)

Where's my rimshot?  My drummer must be on break again.

Well, I don't know if you would have found it though.  I mean, I think it would have depended on whether or not you remember the option name of "Tabs on Top".  After all, you wanted the tabs to be on the bottom, so I think that logic would dictate to search for the word "bottom".  Not only that, but even if you searched for "tabs", then I would think that it would still make sense to look around in the results for the word "bottom" or something similar to that.  I know that I would have missed it otherwise.
