XP SP2 install issue with Asus P5b?

Thread Starter
I recently purchased an Asus P5b deluxe board (havn't recieved it yet) and a copy of Windows XP SP2 and while searching on the net I saw numerous places that claim SP2 won't install on a p5b, has anyone had any troubles with it?

The way "around" this is to install SP1 then update to SP2, I guess my real question is: Has anyone installed Windows SP2 fresh on a P5b deluxe using a sata hdd?

I'm building a whole new rig and I don't think I have SP1 on hand (havn't fully searched my room yet). The p5b comes in the mail either later today or early monday and I was upset to read this after everything was bought. I wonder if the latest bios fixes this issue or not (if it even is a real issue, i guess ill find out!)

Edit: I first read this on a newegg review and I know that those customer reviews are not really worth anything so I google searched it, it was hard to find but there were about 2 instances on seperate forums of people having this problem..

Sounds like a very Rare problem to me. I can bet its down to driver compatibility or BIOS. However it would be interesting to know the symptoms of such an error?..Anyone ?

I sure wouldn't trust newegg reviews 100% but in some cases maybe one or two are accurate.

Anyhow, if you've only found 2 cases then I'd say don't worry about it. I don't think there's going to be an issue as long as you fallow directions. I bet those two cases are because the person is not using a SATA HDD and have the same EIDE HDD in the same channel as the EIDE Optical drive and that's automatically a No-No.

Anyhow, good luck with the board.

yeah, i suppose. At first I was worried but then I started thinking: if the problem was real, you'd think you'd hear about it a lot more. With so many people using this board and so many people using the extremely common XP SP2, you'd think there would be more cases.

I have a P5B with XP SP2 installed and had zero problems.I should have gotten the deluxe version though but I didn't do alot of research when I bough this machine.Time was working against me.I wasn't planning on the windfall of money.

To a certain point it holds true.

My P5B Deluxe Wi-Fi didn't work with my E6600, I had to update the BIOS for the CPU to be fully recognized by the chipset/MoBo and be able to install windows.

My MoBo came with 0204 BIOS but once I installed the 05xx, it worked, except those BIOS sucked big time, the best are the 0711 or 0804 but I don't see why I should update to 0804 yet. I'll wait for a new rev.

It's a shame that a lot of people almost never RTFM and end up giving the product a bad review when it fact....it's just fine.

I have only taken one Newegg review to heart, the PSU I bought for my computer,Enermax Liberty 620 got alot of bad reviews.Needless to say,I didn't read until it was to late and bought one, only to return it.Now I am stuck with an Antec 430 until I get more $$$ for a new one.
