For future reference, I like to install the CPU and RAM on the motherboard first, then put it in the case. Make sure you use the standoffs. Drives, PSU, things like that can go before or after the motherboard. I like to do the heatsink then PCI cards last.
Anyway. Yes, you want AHCI mode selected for any drive that is not in RAID. If you don't know what RAID is, don't worry about it and select AHCI
The 3 pin fan can be plugged in to the 4 pin header, it just won't have automatic speed control. Just make sure it lines up properly, there is a guide on the connector.
You're installing from a windows 8 DVD right? You want to select boot options in the bios and select the DVD. Then follow the instructions. Is that what you're doing? At what point does it stop functioning? Also, you're currently using integrated graphics, not the 660Ti?
The windows installation will restart the PC at certain points. You may need to boot to the DVD or the drive itself depending on the step. Here's what I suggest: Start it from the beginning. If/when it shuts off, reboot to the DVD. If the exact same thing happens, boot to the installation drive the second time around.
