Amplifier for salvaged speakers

I have a broken set of speakers (something happened to the circuit board) and I want to repurpose the speakers themselves. I'm looking for instructions to build a battery-powered amplifier that takes the output from a music player and gives the speakers some volume. A Google search gives me a bunch of results for audio fanatics, which goes way over my head. Does anybody have some links for a beginner?

Also, if there's a better category for this thread, please suggest it.

Do you have a picture of the speakers? If it is a 2 or 3 way speaker, you're going to need a crossover so that the right frequency goes to the correct component.

I wasn't really planning to keep the speakers together, but to make two or three separate things. It has two tweeter-sized speakers and one mid-sized speaker.
