Is motherboard water block really that necessary?

Hey guys,
I'm planning to watercool by entire build and I've thought about watercooling my motherboard. An Asus Rampage IV Extreme.

I've seen people not watercooling it while still watercooling the CPU, ram and GPU(s). So I was wondering if it's really necessary?

The reason why I'm asking is because it's intervening with my tubing design, and I really want to avoid a big cluster f*ck with 6 ports around the CPU area. I'm not planning on doing heavy overclocking with my GPU but I do want to overclock my CPU to 4,5 - 4,6 Ghz.

My specs are:
Intel Core i7 3820 - currently at 4,2 Ghz with a Noctua NH-D14
Asus Rampage IV Extreme
MSI GTX680 Twin FrozrIII factory OC
And my case is a NZXT Switch 810 Gunmetal

It isn't necessary, but I have read that the RIVE does produce a good deal of heat, and is one of the few motherboards that does see a real benefit from being water-cooled.

I'd say try it without, see if it meets your needs, and then add later if necessary.

I will be having 6 fans in push-pull right above it on my 420 Rad and also 4 fans underneath in push-pull on my 240 rad, so It'll be getting a lot air and I won't be using much tubing so there will be a decent airflow across the motherboard from the bottom to top.

So I guess I'll do without it. Thanks smile.gif
