I was hoping some of the original posters would come back and comment more. Should be able to do some testing this weekend though.

Sounds like the type of score I was hoping to hit. I'll give your driver/Trixx OC utility a try over my current setup of afterburner/unknown driver version right now. Did you have to modify the power settings in CCC as well as Trixx for it to work?
Many thanks to all the replies, I haven't done anything of the sort in over 10 years and I'm trying to get back into the look of overclocking. The good old days of trying to figure out how to overclock a Voodoo2 ... never did work all that well back then. smile.gif

I set the CCC to +20% power. I then set the voltage w/ Afterburner but set the core/memory clocks with Trixx. I've pulled a few runs even higher. My rig is dismantled at the moment, but I bet that with a good waterblock and some patience, 11K 3DMark11 GPU Scores wouldn't be that far from reach. The 12.11 Beta made a real big difference for me, personally. Better FPS, OC stability and 3DMark scores. I know this hasnt necessarily been everyone's sentiment.

I'll try your setup and see if I can get anything close to what you have.

If this is done and doesnt work out well, how easy is it to revert back to your old bios ?

I am no expert on this sort of thing, but I would imagine it can be as easy as flashing back to the old bios (which you should have saved). Or as hard as buying a new GPU.

I have had no difficulty switching between an XFX 7970 bios, a Sapphire 7970 bios, and my original MSI 7950 bios. I am pretty new at this though, and am by no means any sort of authority on the matter. I would advise that you view my experiences as anecdotal.

You're the first person I found stating he could do this since the MSI 7950 seems to be a hard one to get working with a 7970 BIOS.

Could you write up a how to manual on doing this with the links to get the software? I know it's asking alot but that would rock !!! Also, are the shaders unlocked on your video card after you flashed your BIOS ?

Thanks

For me to do so would be kind of dishonest, seeing as how I really did none of the legwork.

I got nearly all my information from this thread on another forum. Both bios I have used are linked in the 9th post of the first page there.

As far as unlocking shaders, I do not believe I have unlocked any shaders.

I did, however, flash using ATIflash from a USB.

Edit: By which I mean to say that I am brand new at this, am lucky that I haven't destroyed any of my own equipment, and am in no position to be writing any guides tongue.gif
