I'm still floored by how many tricks Dev's had up their sleeves to make current console titles look as good as they do.
Its exciting to finally hear about the next gen but with the effort MS just put into their latest dashboard update, they must plan on extending the 360's life cycle a little longer

Didnt the new MGS series tell us that, that kind of graphic are able to run on PS3 even tho it demoed on PC

Its not hard to code for, RSX uses basic OpenGL which has been around forever and any one who programmed PS2's Emotion Engine would find Cell a doddle..
PS3's biggest problem for the first few years was memory, the OS take a good chunk of RAM but over the years Sony have reduced it and gave developers more memory.
At launch PS3's OS took 120mb of memory, now it only takes 50mb giving developers an extra 70mb to play with, that has made all the difference.
Not sure, most multi-plats are still are better on Xbox 360. They do trade blows though, PS3 DOES have some better multi-plats. Just the majority of them are better on Xbox 360...And PC, well that's the true best version. thumb.gif

As RAM is cheap, Sony buys it at quite a different pricepoint than we do. Do they contract or build their own? I mean they get the chips and add them to the Mobo. When I took apart my PS3 to bring it back to life (Red light of death), there were no user configurable RAM slots like a PC.

It's too early to say if the motherboard chip count is decreasing or increasing or the total cost to Sony. Almost like IPC while we are sure performance will increase, we could question IP$ (Instructions per Dollar).

It wouldn't surprise me if this placeholder APU has the GPU overclocked to 1 Ghz (it's capable of doing it), perhaps with a 125w TDP, in order to come closer to the real performance of the Steamroller APU. The CPU part may also be overclocked to achieve the same effect.
As to resolution, yes, I think it will probably be running newer games at 720p a few years after release and then drop to sub 720p just like the PS3 right now.

With hugely better specs, why would it? That's quite an arrogant thing to say. 720p with these specs would be the absolute minimum.

Arrogant ? Lol. Read my post again and retract what you just said. I said that the console will be rendering newer games at 720p a few years after release, it was a reference to the post above mine. Of course when it launches it will do 1080p at 60 fps, but the hardware won't manage to keep it like that will all the quality settings maxed out as the years pass. In 6 years time the PS4 won't be able to render the games that will come out then at 1080p at 60 fps.

Nah I think it will be available to handle 1080p perfectly at a minimum. Especially if they decide to crossfire the A10 as a lot of rumors over the past year half already suggested will happen. With the amount of optimization console games receive it shouldn't be an issue at all, the addition of a lot more RAM (Both system and graphics) should help even further.

Read my answer above. Even crossfired, the GPUs will have somewhere around the compute power between a Radeon HD 4890 / HD 5830 and an HD 6850. In 6 years time the PS4 won't be able to render the new games coming out by then at 1080p att 60 fps.

I cant wait. I love the PS3 for its exclusives. IMO the Xbox 360 has really only 2 exclusives. Gears Of War & Halo where as the PS3 has a bunch of exclusives. Dont get me wrong I used to like my 360 because it did offer the best online experience but ofr me not everything for me is done online. I enjoy great single player games & the PS3 just had more to offer.

I cant wait to get the PS4 I may have to skip the next xbox if it does not offer more games.

I still stand by my words. 360 had nothing for games except for Gears of war which was excellent & Halo which is Meh at best where the PS3 has many exclusives. I am looking forward to the PS4 more then the next Xbox.

Nobody said good PS3 games could not be made, just that they're more difficult to create. Developing an exclusive game for PS3 is also much less difficult than a multiplatform game that has to run on the PS3. If you want a multiplatform game now you end up creating an architecture that's not really ideal for one or more of the platforms, or you have to have the engine have multiple sections so it can be optimized for multiple different platforms with different handling for each.

If the console manufacturers can keep their hardware architectures at least somewhat similar then developers will have an easier time developing multiplatform games. Xbox isn't vastly different than PC, so you have two platforms there that are similar, so you end up with devs being able to produce games for two platforms without a lot of extra work, but to include the PS3 in their plans means a huge shift in engine architecture. Sony would be wise to stick with an architecture that devs can utilize more easily.

Also, just because Uncharted looks great on PS3 doesn't mean it couldn't be done on the Xbox. Maybe not exact, but close enough.
