Core i7 930 weird multiplier behavior after fitting new cooler.

Thread Starter
I finally bought a new cpu cooler for my core i7 930. When running prime95 on stock coretemp showed 93°C wich was a little high. So i wen't out and bought a new cooler. (noctua NH-D14)

Now my temps only reach 65°C.specool.gif I was happy with those temps and pressed a button of some standard gigabyte software(Easy tune :/) to overclock it. It wen't up to 3.3Ghz and it was quite a bit faster. But the temps I was getting where around 80°C so i decided to put it back on stock speed.

The problem is that it now keeps running at 2.97Ghz and multiplier is at 22.confusedsmiley.png Is it stuck in turbo mode or is it because its a better cooler it has more headroom to run at that speed?

Side question: Are the temps that coretemp shows reliable because pcwizard shows much lower temps???

Just change the multiplier back in the bios. Odd multi's work better for OC'ing anyways.

The temps should be pretty reliable. Certainly try another software option to double check the software temperatures.

I have the same motherboard and CPU as yours and I never experienced this kind of problems... what do you mean by "multiplier is locked", is the option greyed out in BIOS ?

22 multi won't damage it, why would it.
