We all have problems of our own, yet people still help when possible.

Fair enough.

I think you're splitting hairs here.

Just because Apples name is in the title doesn't mean it's time to bring up everything Apple has ever done. When it comes to etiquette and professionalism it's simple, either stay to the topic at hand or don't post. Or if you have such a strong dislike that you can't control yourself on the topic then simply ignore it. No it's not censorship, it's etiquette. It's respect, not for Apple ( or even apple related threads ), but for the community, the mods, and the guests that view this site. If one feels so strongly about something, take it where it belongs, the off topic section. Anyone can go make an I hate Apple thread or even an I hate Apple fanclub ( if there isn't already one ) and keep all their trash confined to those areas.

While you proposed it's just as easy to go to the red cross` site to donate, you didn't do it in a way to derail and or otherwise disrupt the thread.

Edit: Anyways, I'll leave it at that and just not bother posting in this thread anymore as to not do any more damage to it myself than already done. And I'll gladly accept any warnings/infractions for my posts if a section mod so see fit.

Is it really so surprising to you that when Apple's name is brought up, in any positive way, their history would be brought into the limelight by someone?

I understand what you're saying, but in same ways, I don't blame people for having at it with Apple.

In my opinion, the people that defend Apple only due so because they either own an Apple product, or they enjoy playing devils advocate. Simple as that.

Maybe, but Apple has done a good job giving people reason not to like them.

A company with $176 billion in assets wants to squeeze it's userbase for donations without chipping in itself.

God, it's like Apple intentionally tries to be hated.

Yeah, regarding my first post where I said "Why do I have to "help"? I have problems of my own" was in response to this idea that I have to had given something in donation in order to be able to comment. And I haven't strayed from the topic here or in any Apple threads. I'm pretty sure 5entinal would give me a nudge if I did. None of my comments have been out of order.

I'll be honest and straight up right now. I don't have TV in my house (we don't watch it so there's no point in paying for it) and I don't read newspapers. The only news I get is the stuff I bother to check out on news websites, which is rarely. After signing into Skype and speaking to some of my buddies (one of which is MIA, he's from New York. I'm sure he's fine and just not able to get online, though) I decided to give at least something to the relief efforts. I don't really care about your $400 donation or your penis waving regarding that. You clearly have more disposable income than me and quite possibly also don't have a family to support. I'm under the impression that every little counts.

This is the first time I have ever seen a company who offers a way to donate to a charitable source through their services described as "squeezing it's userbase for donations" or "intentionally trying to be hated."

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone when I read Apple related threads here. Regardless of whether the topic is actually worth getting riled up about, rational thought goes out the window and blind hatred just takes over.

Apple never said they're not going to donate their own money. But they haven't said they are either. Much like Google, they haven't said they are going donate, or Valve. Why don't I see hate for them?

Oh yeah, that's right. They aren't Apple.

In fact. Apple has done more than both Google and Valve.

They have, but not anyone has congratulated them. I try to take a neutral stance when it has to do with money to charity; regardless if I hate it, it's much better than doing nothing.

This is just a poor opportunity to flame apple, though.

Google does provide a "crisis" center for natural disasters such as this, but has never set up a donation link or received any money to put towards aid.

They have done things, but in terms of donating money directly to orgs like Red Cross (opposed to using time and money for their crisis site), no.

The question should be, if Apple can do it, why can't Google?

granted it's not sandy, but dont say Apple isnt charitable now.
and: http://www.phonearena.com/news/In-less-than-2-months-Apple-donates-2.6-million-to-charities-through-Matching-Gifts-Program_id23699

and that was LAST november.

That isn't really going to help people who lost their homes though. Until Google opens something that will allow users to donate (similar to what Apple have done) or they donate themselves I don't see why people aren't hating Google.
