Those people who have said Apple are doing this for publicity are right. All the other corporations donating are doing it for exactly the same reason. Do you really think the NFL care about what people are going through? I have even said Apple are doing it for publicity.

Then why do we need a thread praising the all-mighty and good Apple?

Who again is praising Apple?

Or is extra awareness that people can donate via iTunes from well, pretty much any of their computers/devices considered praising?

No one has said anything about praising or that Apple is good. And that is a good point. Why does this thread even exist? I don't see a thread about the thinkgeeks donation. I have a feeling this thread was created specifically as another way to "bash" Apple.

It's OCN, that's the only reason any Apple threads exist :|

Next on the list;

" [The Insider] Apple just donated 95% of their money to various charities "

" [OCN] Oh what the heck greedy Apple, why couldn't they donate ALL of their money "

You seem to forget that hipsters have Macs and they try to help out with things as much as possible. Apple having a donate button is going to temp them to donate as much as they can. Just like when that Kony thing happened earlier this year. I know Apple wasn't involved with that, but a majority of people who donated were hipsters, most of them didn't even fully understand where the money was going for that. What makes you think those same people won't donate through iTunes?

I bash Apple where appropriate. Equally, taking your comments, you take every opportunity to slag OCN off.

Miki made the best points thus far in this thread and I stand by those. IF you want to see me as a blind hateful Apple basher. That's up to you. But I'll just have you know I bash Apple where it's appropriate.... which is a lot of the time.

Just being honest here, I've seen you bashing on Apple in every thread that mentions Apple. Are there any Apple threads you haven't bashed them in?

Specifically in the last 6 weeks, threads I remember you bashing in:
- Live coverage of iPhone 5 unveiling
- iPhone 5 performance benchmarks news
- Apple maps issues news
- iPhone 5 "scuffgate" news
- iPhone 5, 5 million sales in first 3 days thread.
- Samsung galaxy sales outpace iPhone sales news.
- iPhone 5 "green glow" for fraction of a second news.
- iPhone 5 "purple lens flare" camera issue
- iPad Mini announcement thread
- iMac thread about it not having optical drive, Blu-ray news thread
- MacBook Pro retina threads
- Thread about reverse engineered lightning cable
- Apple setting up donation through iTunes thread

So, that's just about every Apple thread I can think of in the last few weeks. I'm not saying Apple didn't screw anything up, but don't pretend you're not bashing when you're in every thread talking about how terrible Apple is, when in reality the news is blown out of proportion. I know about 30 people with iPhone 5s, many with iPhone 4Ss, 30-40 with iMacs, 20 with iPads, about 15 with MacBooks, and I have yet to hear a complaint, with the exception of a friend with an iPhone 4 whose home button had worn out and wouldn't work, the iPhone 5 has a much more durable home button). Bash all you want, I've dealt with hundreds of these products and use them all on a daily basis for work, they're high quality and reliable. And just to be transparent, we deal with many Android devices, and also use PCs as well.

It's kind of amusing how defensive some of you get when anyone says anything negative about Apple.

Thread: "[Source]Apple sues Samsung for their device being squared and flat"

iDrone, "Well, I mean, it's not Apple's fault the patent office sucks..."

List goes on and on. I could do this all day.

edit to add: I mean honestly, why get so bent out of shape just because someone has a different point of view as you do? What I notice is that, someone will make a negative comment about Apple, and then an Apple supporter will want to argue the person to death in attempt to defend Apple's "honour"... it's hilarious.

It gets tiring trying to discuss Apple news while every other post in those threads is bashing. As I said, some of the complaints are valid and the reasoning behind them is given constructively, but it's rare.

This.

If there is a fair complaint on the topic ( not the subject, unless the subject is the topic ) and has constructive critism, then by all means express yourself all day. But mindless bashing in every thread on a certain subject regardless of the topic just to complain and repeat the same hatred over and over, it's disrepectful to the community to have to see it, disrespectful to the mods who have to deal with it, and scares off potential guests who may not sign up now see'ing how bad the community reacts to a certain topic, or a certain group of people or a certain set of preferences people have.

I don't have a problem with people disliking Apple, I personally do not like them that much. But I can not deny that they make quality products ( ignoring price and looking at the product for the product ). I don't deny Apple has abused quite a few things and as a company have not been doing too well for the company or their customers, but I don't go to every thread about Apple and start ripping on them because of my own personal vendetta.

I would like to go into a news thread and be able to discuss the news and not have to deal with trolls and mindless haters. If you all dislike Apple to that extreme extent, go express that extreme feeling in the appropriate place and not clog up every news thread with it.

This thread started as a thread about an alternative way for millions of current iTunes users to donate to the Sandy Relief, now... not so much as it's been taken over and flipped so many times the topic seems to have been lost.

Apparently, just throwing cash at a bureaucracy does not get results. Whodathunkit?
Quote:
Stranded neighbors largely have been relying on volunteers delivering food, water and other basic necessities while the Red Cross and FEMA were still nowhere in sight.
. . .
The Borough President of Staten Island called the reaction of Red Cross - or lack thereof - to the devastation caused by Sandy an 'absolute disgrace'.
James Molinaro went as far as to tell people not to donate to the charity because when push came to shove, the group just didn't deliver when Staten Island needed them the most.
'My advice to the people of Staten Island is do not donate to the American Red Cross,' said Mr Molinaro. 'Let them get their money elsewhere.'

If you want something done right, you need to do it yourself.

"Senior Moderator", what you mentioned is not the thread topic, can you please do not derail the thread. go join the haters club if you want to talk about apple in general, this thread is specifically about apple's donation link in itunes, thanks.

AGAIN:

no one is making a big deal about it, no one is praising them or anything, this is just a news thread, simply informing us that apple did this.

should we praise apple for doing this? not really.
should we hate apple for doing this? absolutely not, there is nothing wrong with what they did, but haters gonna hate right? it's cool to hate apple.
